2 sets of envelopes.  1 for stage left, 1 for stage right.  Warren entered from stage rear.

Price Waterhouse screwed up and gave Warren Beatty the 2nd Best Actress envelope by mistake instead of Best Picture.

If you view the actual video, he opened the envelope & was deeply puzzled but said nothing.  He showed it to Faye Dunaway but she thought he was joking and blurted out "La La Land!"

What a debacle.

It happened once before in 1964.  Sammy Davis, Jr. handled it gracefully & with humor.
