Congrats to the legendary songwriter Bob Dylan on his Nobel Price for Literature.

I think it's well-deserved and long overdue.

I wonder if he'll interrupt his never ending tour to accept it.

Dylan has been performing in Palm Springs, CA with Paul McCartney last week (pre-Nobel announcement) and the Rolling Stones last night.  So far, no comment about the Nobel.

Mick Jagger said last night, "we've never shared the stage with a Nobel laureate before."

Dylan's playlist both nights was identical except for one song addition last night: "Why Try to Change Me Now."

"Why Try To Change Me Now"

  I'm sentimental
So I walk in the rain
I've got some habits
That I can't explain
Could start for the corner
Turn up in Spain
Why try to change me now

I sit and daydream
I've got daydreams galore
Cigarette ashes
There they go on the floor
I go away weekends
And leave my keys in the door
But why try to change me now

Why can't I be more conventional
People talk
People stare
So I try
But that's not for me
Cuz I can't see
My kind of crazy world
Go passing me by
So let people wonder
Let 'em laugh
Let 'em frown
You know I'll love you
Till the moon's upside down

Don't you remember
I was always your clown
Why try to change me now
Don't you remember
I was always your clown
Why try to change me
Why try to change me now

Well, the Nobel Prize Ceremony was held today in Stockholm Sweden.  And Patti Smith had a senior moment in verse 2 of  "A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall."  Hey, it could happen to anyone.

Patti Smith stumbles then delivers at Bob Dylan-less Nobel ceremony

I looked at one of the pictures of Dylan in the Telegraph article, and I was seeing a resemblance to Salvador Dali, but when I actually checked, they are not really that similar.  I am still seeing a shared, kind of haunted, look in their eyes — I have a feeling that there is a price to pay for having real creative genius.

I've always viewed true creative genius as just a hair's width away from insanity.  I think it's a lifelong struggle for genius' to keep it together and not completely self-destruct.

i've wondered if, at least, part of the problem is that 'the world' often expects people with exceptional gifts in one area to have something worthwhile to say about areas outside their gifted area.  (and that is seldom the case - dylan's a case in point.)

that, plus genius seldom continues to grow beyond the 40th birthday.  (notable exceptions like l. euler not withstanding.)

the pressures external and internal from realizing one's gifts are very limited and then latter realizing the gift is failing may lead to self-destruction.

Still, great fun to see the original wellspring of genius. Thanks for sharing! Dylan's influence has spanned six decades and continues to be relevant.
