Free Base Fonts for Custom Font?

I'm working on a book about conspiracy and would love to use this particular font --

https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/conspiracy

Unfortunately, I can't unzip the folder I downloaded, and FontSquirrel Support wasn't able to help me. So I'd like to create my own conspiracy font.

Do I have to start from scratch, drawing all the characters by hand, or are there free (as in public domain) fonts I can use as a base font. I like the appearance of the font I linked to above. Alternatively, I think something that looks like the characters produced by a typewriter would look nice.

Do you know where I could get such a font?

Thank you.

Are you Windows or Mac? Did you download the ZIP file or the SIT file? If you're on Windows and you downloaded the SIT, that's why you can't open the archive — it's a proprietary Mac format. The ZIP opens perfectly well.
