Typekit fonts not working in some InDesign files

Been having trouble with Proxima Nova family not working in certain InDesign files. When I copy and paste text from one InDesign file in which the font is working and paste it into another pre-existing file, the font is missing. I've tried unsyncing and resyncing.

However, if I create a brand new InDesign file and paste the same text into it, the font works. All of these 3 files are open at the same time. The font works in the first InDesign file and the newly created one, but not the pre-existing file. The only way I can get the font to work in this file is to outline them first. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Jason,

I'm sorry you ran into trouble here. This definitely sounds odd. Can you tell me:

- OS and version, InDesign version?

- Does this happen with other Typekit fonts?

- In the file that won't paste with Proxima Nova, are you able to create elements in that file with Proxima Nova as opposed to pasting from another file?

If Proxima Nova is in the font menu in the file that's having issues, it would appear that font sync and the font is working. If not, there's something else going on. Thanks for your help here. Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Hi Ben,

I’m running OS X El Capitan, 10.11.6

InDesign is: 12.0.0.81

I know that there’s an update waiting for me, but this problem has persisted through several upgrades. I have had trouble with other Typekit fonts when the files come from someone else. I am not able to create elements in the file with Proxima Nova. The font family shows in the menu, but when I use it, InDesign highlights it showing that it is missing.

I’ve tried other documents I created in InDesign and they don’t seem to have the same problem. The offending file is a weekly newsletter that I “save as” every week to work on the new edition. I do it this way because the layout is complex and I don’t want to recreate the basic elements every week. Perhaps there is something wrong with this file that saving as doesn’t clean out? Is that possible?

Best, __Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the info.

It sounds to me like this is specific to this file and that perhaps, a previous version of Proxima Nova was used when this was created. InDesign is looking for that version but isn't finding it.

I'd like to dive into this further. Would you be able to send us the offending file here: support@typekit.com and just mention my name. I'll test this out and see if I can reproduce the issue.

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Cheers,

Benjamin
