It has happened again today to two of us. Different fonts today, but the same thing happens. The fonts are shown as missing when the file is opened, but they are still active when we check them. Deactivate then reactivate through 'Manage fonts' gets them working again. It IS an InDesign issue, so far at least – the issue has only appeared when using InDesign. We haven't seen any sign of it happening in Photoshop or Illustrator yet, but next time it happens in InDesign I will check to see if other apps can see the fonts. ... View more

We have been on Creative Cloud for a couple of years and hadn't seen this issue until today. Same situation – Creative Cloud shows all the fonts as being active, but Indesign cannot see them (in our case the font was Trade Gothic Next). Clicking on 'Manage fonts' in the Creative Cloud app and then deactivating-reactivating the fonts on the fonts.adobe.com page has worked so far. ... View more

This feels very similar now to the disappearing layer dots in the layers panel. The missing layers dots could be fixed by deleting the 'InDesign SavedData' file. The main difference is that when the layer dots were 'fixed', the fix lasted for a day or two, or sometimes longer. The 'Remember last export format' fix only lasts for a couple of file saves before it is gone! That one required a fix from Adobe, so I suspect this one does too, please Adobe. ... View more

Further to my last post, to clarify, the functionality on our Macs is that it only remembers the format of the last file exported. So I just exported an InDesign file as a JPEG, and then when I returned to a file I worked on an hour ago, that I last exported as a PDF, the 'remembered' last export format is JPEG. So NOTHING is being remembered across individual files at all. It's a real shame as remembering the last export settings travelling with each individual file is a really great idea. ... View more

OK, I think I've worked out what the problem is. We were reading last export 'format' thinking it meant the complete settings. After testing a whole bunch of files and formats it turns out that InDesign only remembers the 'type' of file format that was exported. It doesn't remember any of the export settings that went along with that. So essentially it's pretty pointless. For example, it doesn't remember whether an EPS was exported as CMYK or RGB, it doesn't remember what the compression value of a PDF was, or any of the other settings – the detail stuff that is actually useful, and that you might forget over time. So when a co-worker picks up another studio member's file a month later, they will still have no way of knowing what settings were used when the file was exported last time. You could also consider doing this with layers in the InDesign file and export a PDF with the layers included. It depends on the structure of your document, but it sounds like you have considered a pop-up for the map so it might work. It requires a bit of planning on how the buttons work, but we did this successfully a year or two back. We used button actions to 'Set layer visibility' and it was relatively straightforward. ... Eyedropper tool crashes, network drives unsupported, too many fonts and it doesn't run. There are multiple and multi-page threads of people having significant problems with CC2018. The solution from the experts seems to be to stay with 2017. Presumably you disagree with them, or are you just 'lucky' that it runs for you? I've been waiting for you to show up in any of them to berate people who upgraded to CC2018 straight away on a production machine, or do you only berate people who upgrade the MacOS straight away (on which point I do agree with you). Hopefully someone who understands the crash reports will come along and help you work out what is happening. The problem is not that CS6 is unsupported, although Bill is quite correct in stating that. CS6 can and does run well on brand new iMacs with Sierra for a lot of us, so there's every chance you can get it working too. The best solution is getting what you have working, but if you do decide to go with Creative Cloud then make sure you don't install Indesign CC2018 - it is a huge mess still. OK Obi-wan - here is my version. First the VERY simple option. Use a paragraph rule or underline in your paragraph style - one click and you're done. But, it doesn't give you the ability to have smaller radius rounded corners. But, if you combine the two - paragraph rules and underline - then you can achieve the effect that the OP asked for, for free, and still just with one click of a paragraph style. The trick to getting the underline to fill the column width is to add a flush space at either end of the text. Not ideal, but fairly easily added with GREP. There are still limitations as although it will expand to the width of the cell automatically, the height of the rules will not automatically expand the height of the cell, in my testing at least. If the table cells are all a uniform height though then with a little work up front it will work perfectly, for free, and I got to have fun playing around with this. ... View more

A simple, and free, way is to just use a paragraph style for the text that has a thick, rounded cap rule style with the rule offset to sit behind the text. Or you could achieve much the same thing with a character style that uses a thick, rounded cap underline style. Both very easy! ... View more

The correct answer is whatever helps the OP. Not a 'blanket statement' that you need to update to CC2017 to fix it. It is certainly not the place of someone who has not even participated in the discussion to mark an answer as correct. Unfortunately in this case the OP hasn't come back to the thread to give feedback on what they have tried and what their specific issues are, so it isn't possible to help any further. I am not making blanket statements that CS6 works fine - I am simply stating that it is possible. No-one can give an absolute guarantee. I wish people would stop doing this, particularly when they are not contributing to the solution and in all likelihood have no idea what is correct and what isn't. Hi Yvonne I am one of the many people who are 'able to run InDesign CS6 satisfactorily' under Sierra - in fact it actually runs perfectly and is crisp and clear and very fast on a new 5K iMac with Retina screen. While it is true that CS6 is not supported by Adobe any more, it can and does still run with Sierra and you DO NOT have to upgrade to CC to get things working. For many people this is not a good option as apart from the unnecessary costs of doing this, it is causing a lot of headaches. A quick browse through these forums show that CC2017 in particular is very buggy. High resolution displays are not an issue with CS6, regardless of whether CS6 has been optimised for them or not. Some people report the type being a little bit soft on Mac laptops with Retina screens, but nobody has reported any issues with clarity on iMacs with Retina screens. Do you have a Macbook or an iMac? Has your InDesign just started doing this, or have you just changed your computer? You might try some different display resolution options to see if that helps. ... View more
