Stefan, Hi! As a product evangelist, you are doing a great job, no doubt about that! The Save as PDF option didn't work for me just because it did nothing when clicking it, de facto. It only started doing something after installing Update #1. As I told Markus, I had numerous sessions with the Adobe support team in the past, while debugging FM10 issues I had. The support guys confirmed that they managed to reproduce most of the issues I had, but that was about it. I didn't get any patch and until this day, I didn't get access to the beta program. I had to wait for a long time, till FM12 was released, to see if some of the issues I had were resolved. So this time, I'll let you guys sort things out on your own, without me spending my time on debugging your product.

Hi Markus, I appreciate your response. Update 2 won't help me much as my trial version has already expired. I've already uninstalled it. I've looked at the list of bugs fixed since FM19 was released, and I just can't understand how come they were overlooked before the release. If the Save as PDF option doesn't work, how can you overlook that? I actually requested access to the beta program several times in the past but haven't gotten it. I don't really care already as I've decided to move on to other, more stable authoring tools, with better support.

Hi Markus, Apparently, it largely depends on the use case/environment. If you work on some light-weight projects, whether in structured or unstructured mode, FM19 may do the job. This is different in case of large-scale projects including thousands of pages. In my case, FM19 failed where FM15 did what it was supposed to do (slowly but surely) - I am mostly talking about PDF distilling and HTML5 generation. With the trial version of FM19, I couldn't even customize the HTML5 publishing settings - it crashed. I couldn't distill more than 61 pages. I use FM on Win7. I guess you have already moved to Win10, right? The product should be tested in different environments and at different stress levels before it is released to the market. I am sure Adobe has enough resources to fully test the product, without me pinpointing the issues. I've spent enough time working with the Adobe support in the past and showing them the issues I had. Nowadays, I can't allow myself wasting my time on that anymore.

Hi Stefan, As far as I can see, the availability of update #2 has not been officially announced yet. I evaluated FM19, with update#1 installed, and it currently is the most buggy version I've seen so far, after FM9. What does the QA department do?

Hi Jang, Thank you for your prompt response! Somehow, I felt you would respond to this question. Telepathy? 🙂 So you claim that structured files are saved as MIF before turning them into HTML? In my case, these are unstructured files. I wouldn't want to restrict the script so that MIF files stored in a certain location will be ignored when opened. Now I realize why it takes ages for Framemaker to map styles in a (large) book each time the publisher's Style Mapping dialog is opened and why it takes ages for Framemaker to create HTML output from this book. The situation is no better in FM19, despite Adobe's claim that the application has been revamped and optimized. Thanks, Roman

Hello fellows, I have a registered event extendscript that is normally triggered upon opening a MIF file. The script automatically saves the MIF file in a certain location, closes the MIF and opens the FM file. Surprisingly, when publishing HTML5, the script is triggered, both when the publisher tries to retrieve the styles used in the book files and when running the conversion to HTML5. There is no way to stop script execution/publisher except for killing Framemaker. Does Framemaker save files as MIF when trying to map FM styles to HTML and when converting to HTML5? Sounds like a bug to me. Thanks for your input in advance!

Hello fellows, I need a framescript that deletes a specific xref format (e.g., "API") from a book. So I've decided to write one for the sake of practice. I came up with the following code. ***Update: I have FM ver. 13.05. It appears that in an earlier version of FM 15 (ver. 13.0.1), it does work. So the conclusion is that the latest version of FM 15 is buggy! As usually, not surprising...

Hi Matt, I appreciate your response! As far as I can see, there is no such option in the publisher (while it is indeed available in Robohelp). In the end, it was the matter of the caption placement (before or after the graphic frame anchor). The problem was caused by putting the caption after the anchor. Kind regards, Roman

Hello fellows, I've imported an SLZ file through the FM Publisher HTML5 Settings dialog and I set the following to False: Show Index Show Glossary Show Filter Show Search Results in... When I compile the HTML5, the layout still includes all these elements. I can't figure out why the layout settings are ignored by the publisher. Any ideas? I did the same in Robohelp, and the settings are treated as expected. I guess there is some nasty bug in the publisher. Thanks in advance!

Hello fellows, I have a strange issue with figure captions defined in Framemaker as having a line under the caption ("Frame Below Pgf" property) . This line is retrieved from a frame on the reference page. The caption is set to appear above the figure. In the Publisher, the figure caption style is set to "Use Source Style". When I convert FM to HTML5, the figure caption is turned into <p class="FigureTitle">. The problem is that in the HTML output the figure caption is "split" into 2 <p> - the caption text itself, then comes the figure and then comes another <p class="FigureTitle"> that only contains the line itself (turned into a jpg). I can't figure out how to avoid splitting <p class="FigureTitle"> into two and keep the line below the caption itself. Unfortunately, the caption cannot be mapped to a corresponding HTML tag in the Publisher as there is no relevant tag in the Pgf mapper. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi guys, I've installed a trial version of RH 2017, as Jeff suggested. Unfortunately, the output has the same issues as in RH 2015. The references to figures, tables, as well as text with a character style applied to it appear on a separate line and are wrapped with <pre>. Note tables don't include the Note graphic. BTW, even if I manually add an anchored frame to the 1st column of the Note table and insert an image by reference, the image doesn't show up in the RH output. This is really frustrating. Update: I generated the HTML 5 output using the FM 15 Publisher. Many of the Note tables include an icon, but not all of them. It's not clear to me why. An additional problem is that <div> that contains the table has a right indentation for an unclear reason. The issue I had with the cross-references also emerges when a word is italicized (in which case, both RH and the FM Publisher break the line and wrap the italicized string in <pre>). So, the FM 15 Publisher is a bit better than RH in terms of handling tables. Regards, Roman

When the style is created, it is possible to edit it and configure more properties, but none of them address the issue I have with the RH style. Peter, Jeff, Thank you for your responses! The RH Table Styles editor provides only basic table look and feel configuration options, such as background color, line color, font, etc. I can add a table with an image in the 1st column, but there is no way to save a table as a style in RH. In Framemaker, the images that appear in the Note/Caution tables are pulled from a reference page, where they are placed in anchored frames. I also tried importing those images by reference into an anchored frame that I inserted into a table column. In this case, the table doesn't appear in the RH output at all. An additional issue I came across is that whenever there is a cross-reference to another section, RH breaks the line and wraps the <a> link inside <pre>. So the RH HTML 5 output looks like the following: Refer to <pre><a>This is a Link to Another Section</a></pre> The FM to RH xref mapping options do not provide an ability to control this behavior. I guess, it may only be fixed through CSS. Do you know what could cause this strange RH behavior? So far, the impression is that RH 2015 is a really horrendous tool unless you know all its quirks and back doors. Regards, Roman

Jeff, Peter, Hi! Thank you for your responses! Regarding the figure/table captions: I've created the corresponding styles in Robohelp and then mapped the FM styles to the RH styles. I also modified the xref styles accordingly. My current challenge is the Note/Caution tables. As I wrote earlier, these 2-column tables include a corresponding icon in the 1st column and text in the second column. The icon does not appear in the RH project and the table looks ugly in general. It is possible to create a similar table in RH, with the icon inserted into the 1st column. But I don't see a way to save this table as a style to be further mapped to the FM table style. Any ideas? Hi Jeff, Thank you for your response! Yes, the FM Figure Title and Table Title pfg tags are listed, but I wonder if there is a need to map them to some HTML tag/style. I read somewhere that mapping to Source is not a good practice as the CSS is then full of irregular tags (as you mentioned, "FM_xxxx"). My Note and Caution tables have a corresponding icon in the 1st column and text in the second column. I don't see a way to create a similar table in RH. How do I preserve the icon in the 1st column? Hello fellows, I have an FM 13 book linked to a Robohelp project and I am in the middle of mapping the FM pgf styles to RH styles. I don't see a way to map FM figure/table captions to any similar RH style as there isn't any. As far as I understand, setting the mapping to Source isn't recommended. Any ideas how to proceed? Additional question is how to map the FM Note/Caution tables to a similar table in HTML? Thank you in advance!

Hi Matt, I appreciate your response! What I meant was that normally, the Framemaker Workspaces directory appears in two locations: 1. In the FM installation directory under Program Files 2. In ../<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\13\. It's been so for years. Suddenly, after installing FrameMaker on several new Win7 systems, FrameMaker can no longer create the Workspaces directory under <user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\13\. Regards, Roman

Hi Rick, Thank you for your response! I need to replace a legacy MIF file created with FM 6.0 with a new one. The legacy MIF file served as a template for MIF files generated out of XML files. The only problem is that if I save the new template file as MIF 7.0 or later, the file generated from XML contains an extra blank page at the beginning of the file. With the old template, it worked fine and didn't add any blank pages. I checked the pagination and master page usage settings and they are identical in both the old and the new templates. So I hoped that saving the new template as MIF 6.0 would somehow resolve the issue. But it appears that I can't save as MIF 6.0. Saving as MIF7.0 doesn't help, so saving as MIF6.0 wouldn't have helped either, I guess... Best Regards, Roman

Hi everyone, I've encountered a weird problem. Newly installed Framemaker 15 (part of TCS) doesn't copy the Workspaces directory to C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\13\. Manually copying the Workspaces directory (with all the files inside it) to this location doesn't help, as the custom workspace/menus/toolbar don't show up in FM. Security-wise, I have full control of the FrameMaker\13\ directory, so it should be able to write to it. Has anyone else encountered this issue on Win7? Thanks, Roman
