Hi Scott, From what you wrote it sounds as if some of your files are not opened and saved correctly. These are still in FM 12 format. Possibly because you only update the book, and these files have issues like missing fonts so that they cannot be opened. I would do a MIF wash for all files. That is: open the file, save as MIF. Open the MIF, save as FM. Open the FM and continue working with it. There are various scripts out there to automate this, e.g. ExtendScript scripts, or FrameScript scripts or Mif2Go. Then the files are definitely in FM 2015 format. When you open a FrameMaker file with a text editor, then the first line displays the FrameMaker version. You should check this as well. The icon in your file system shows which exe will open files with this extension. If it still shows a FM 12 icon, then I would check that. Right click on a FrameMaker file and select Open with. You can also use the Find/Change dialog: 1 Put your insertion mark into a paragraph 1.0 Heading. 2 Right click in the paragraph and select Copy Special | Paragraph format. 3 Then go to the Find/Change dialog. Probably your Arial CE was a virtual font which was created by Windows. Windows made Arial (Unicode font) appear as several non-Unicode fonts with CE for Eastern European languages. This had been needed for applications which did not understand Unicode such as FrameMaker up to FrameMaker 7. Now you should just replace Arial CE with Arial. Arial has all characters for Polish. Open the font pod and and select Arial CE and replace it with Arial. FrameMaker should map the non-Unicode characters of Arial CE to the corresponding Unicode characters of Arial automatically. Can you describe this in more detail? How does a page look like when content disappears? Can you take a screenshot and upload it to the forum? Is there just empty space? Do only whole files disappear? Is content hidden and the content afterwords takes the space of the missing content? When content is hidden, can you still move the insertion mark through the disappeared content with the arrow keys? Possibly any changes to the appearance of the main text frame? Does text disappear only on a single page or does the disappeared section encompass several pages? What happens when you update your book? What do you do, when you notice this issue? FrameMaker 11.0.2.384 My issue is similar. However, it does not refer to the cross-reference pod (which lists cross-references), but to the cross-reference dialog (which you need to create a new cross-reference). When I have many paragraphs, then sometimes I notice that I cannot select a specific paragraph in the cross-references dialog. Annoying. When there is a file with missing fonts, then FrameMaker cannot open this file during the update. Cross-references which point to this file cannot be resolved. Another approach: FrameMaker uses the conditions Inserted and Deleted to mark inserted and deleted text in the CMP file. In the Search/Replace dialog select the Deleted condition for deleted text to search for. Leave the Replace box empty. Then search for the Deleted condition and either replace (i.e. delete the text) or leave it as it is. After this search/replace the remaining text with the Deleted condition is correct. I had just installed FrameMaker 12 on a virtual machine. There wasn't an option to install or not install the PDF creation add-on (unlike FrameMaker 11). Therefore it could be that FrameMaker 12 installs its PDF creation add-on, if it cannot find Acrobat Standard/Professional of the same version. Hi Gloria, With Show as per Condition FrameMaker will show all text which has A applied, no matter, if other conditions are applied as well. This is the OR logic. If A should be shown and AB should be hidden, you must use this expression: "A"ANDNOT"B" A will be shown. Then the expression checks for B. and hides all text with B. I admit I experiment, if I want to achieve a specific result, specifically when there are more conditions involved. Probably this is easier in FrameMaker 12 as it allows to use brackets. Hi Niels, When you select Character Format in the Find text box, FrameMaker opens the Find Character Format dialog. When you click outside of a text frame so that the insertion mark is not placed in text, FrameMaker will set all elements to As Is. If the insertion mark was inside of text, then all elements inherit the current settings. Then press SHIFT + F8 to to set all elements to As Is. Hi, The link is always terminated before any change in the character format. That's not a bug. Therefore if you have subscript or supescript applied, the link starts at the beginning of the paragraph and ends before the character format change (sub-/superscript). That's FrameMaker's way to define the range of a hyperlink. Hi Georg, Sometimes I encounter a bug (FrameMaker 11.0.2.348) which also hides some text. I have a two-column layout with columns balanced. Usually some text is hidden at the end of the second column. When I add some empty paragraphs after the hidden text, the text appears again. MIF washing does not help. Luckily pages with hidden text have the Overflow property set. The bottom line of the text frame is solid. I wrote a FrameScript which checks for such pages.
