Hi Jennifer, Did you not only place a hyperlink marker inside of the web address but also apply apply a character format to the whole text of the web address? In that case the whole text should serve as a hyperlink regardless of spaces or line breaks. Hi, Be careful, if you copy and paste in the same file. Cross-reference markers will only be pasted, if the marker which you had copied is actually not present any longer. With Track Text Edits, the source marker would still exist. Therefore you would lose your cross-reference markers when pasting. Your cross-references to this section would become unresolved. Hi, I have the same FrameMaker version. I just created a new FrameMaker file with the default portrait template, saved it as MIF and opened it again. Then deleted some paragraph formats and then deleted all unused formats (via the commend in the paragraph catalogue). Both work. I do not know where your problem comes from. I could also imagine another cause. A year ago I copied accidentally the text frame of the main text flow on a certain page and pasted it right back. It appeared as if there would be no change although there were two text frames with identical content on top of each other. I had noticed that the text did not move. When text needs to be translated, markers in words or between words of a sentence will split your segment. Example: Press<marker> OK to start the process. (<marker> would be the marker which you had inserted.) If the marker contains text which must be translated (e.g. index marker) the translator will get: First segment: Press Second segment: text in your marker Third segment: OK to start the process. What should the translator now do? Write the translation of the whole sentence into the first segment? Or into the third? What if he wrote the translation into the first segment and you have a similar sentence "Press<marker> Cancel to abort the process". The "Press" segment is identical to the of your other sentence. It will get replaced by the incorrect translation. Very dangerous. Reusing translations does not work. Translation memory systems have options to move markers to the start or end of a segment. However, you do not know whether your translation agency uses this option. Therefore it's good practice to keep markers and anchored frames always at the very beginning or end of a paragraph. ... Hi, Font info is also stored here: Stored table tags or in a deleted table title In a left/right master page, if your document is single sided and you had deleted the master page of the other side Master pages Reference pages Graphics files You can also open the MIF file (preferably with MIFBrowse: http://www.grahamwideman.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm or in another text editor) and search for the font name. Or you can deactivate "Remember missing font names" in the Preferences and then open your file. FrameMaker will permanently replace Palatino with another font. Very strange indeed. If we look at the available information, we can notice: Freezing means that FrameMaker needs 100 % of the processor power. Some installations show this behaviour. If FrameMaker freezes, this behaviour is shown always. This behaviour is already there, even if no other applications are started. If I recall correctly, this behaviour is also shown on new installations of Windows and FrameMaker. This behaviour is reported only by very few users. Therefore I would conclude: It could be that certain settings in an ini file do not work with a certain PC configuration or hardware. It could be that FrameMaker generally has problems with certain PC configurations or hardware. Can this be sorted out? If FrameMaker has general problems with a configuration or hardware, it could be that also other software has similar problems. Did anyone hear something similar of other software applications? Hi Michael, Now I checked our conversion back in 2008. I had used this command already, unfortunately it has a bug. When you update two text insets in the same text flow or in different text flows FrameMaker will crash with the second text inset. (I did not test text insets inside of other text insets.) Hi Art, In the FM Print dialog box, make sure you have Generate Acrobat Data checked, and Print to File UNchecked. Why do you always insist on unchecking Print to File? This has nothing to do with the Acrobat data. When you print to file, a Postscript file is created which you must double-click to open the Distiller and to create a PDF file. But that's perfectly OK. The PDF is the same whether Print to File is checked or not. If I do not check Print to File, I am asked where the PDF should be stored. And the suggested folder is not the folder of the FrameMaker file so that I must go serveral folders up and then several down. Takes much more time than double-clicking on the PostScript file. (I admit I did not try to check whether I can modify Acrobat or FrameMaker to select the folder of the FrameMaker file.) If your workflow is different, then fine. Hi Mark, If a paragraph is at the end of a text flow, instead of a paragraph mark the text flow symbol is used. This text flow symbol cannot be hidden. Hi vmugdha, With FrameMaker 6/7/8/9 you can update existing formats. That means, format names did not change, only their defnition. You do this with File | Import | Formats. Hi, You say FM 8 needs at least Windows XP, SP 2. However, FrameMaker 8 works very well on older Windows systems. In my case it's Windows 2000, SP 4. Hi Peter, You could do the following: 1 In the text frame of the header insert a table with 2 columns and a single body row. Set the height of the table to a fixed heigt for only a single line. 2 On a left page, insert your running header variable in the left column. Insert any fixed content (e.g. product name) in the right column. 3 On a right page vice versa. Now the content of the running header variable will be stripped off when it extends the column width.
