Found a workaround. I hacked datatype.rnc from CS4 and CS5 together. Fortunately the missing Datatypes from CS4 are written in the CS5 File. I've got a similar problem with CS 5 and CS 5.5 with Windows 7. The datatype.rnc is not fully written. hey ole, i do see your point - especially for exprienced scripters. but for beginners and learnes this would confuse even more: the label property would not correspond to the itemByLabel() function (same problem as  insertLabel() and extractLabel() but far less used). the mess started with insertLabel() and now there is no easy way out. luckily i had never any problems with users accidently changing labels in the label panel. gregor ... Interesting finding. I was sure that Adobe had'nt changed anything regarding to XML in CS5. As far as I can see/test your observation is correct. I would suggest to use the class XMLElement instead of working with the superclass XMLItem. Hey Dave, you forgot to handle placed XML Elements in your findPage function and made a mistake about the Cell case. With a selected Cell your switch statement selected the parentTextFrame and breaked the switch. hey gil, my previous post was a little sloppy. he idea was to create the needed FindChangeList.txt file out of your xl file with the help of regular expressions instead of copy paste. For this you nedd to: save your excel file as csv change your csv file to FindChangeList.txt use it. problem is to convert your csv to the appropriate format: you need regular expressions for this. check out http://www.regular-expressions.info/tutorial.html the provided example was to select both columns in the csv file (assumed a ; as separator): (.+?);(.+?) .+? is a regular expression and means: select any character (one ore more times) until you find the delimiter (in this case ; ). the brackets are used to memorize the findings. in the replace dialog you can use the findings with $1 and $2 respetively: that menas you can put the contents of the first brackets (column) in the findWhat field and the second column in the changeTo field. after replacing a lines your FindChangeList is ready for use. you can search for a given length, but i do not get your example. what exactly is your sentence? what is in the first column what is in the second column of you xls file and what problems can occur? reagrds, gregor ... i just took the time to test a simple configuration. neither stylesheet in xml nor a separate stylesheet file works on cs3 via scripting (running a windows her, on mac it's it's not working too). in cs4 everything works fine, cs5 ist not around. by the way, indesings xsl processor in cs3,4,5 is rather crappy. i do any reasonable transformation outside of indesign with saxon 9. you can process a batch file or command line easily via scripting. regards, gregor ... thanks for the clarification - i guessed that already. is there no API at all, e.g. for plugin development? can i access these components via the cs sdk 5 and action script? i don't know about future developments of adobe indesign but it feels like there are more and more flash components. this would be a drwaback for scripting and out of a scripters perspective not very helpful. of course buzzword integration, kuler etc. are not primary scripting goals but live review will be. in my indesign automation classes i teached: scripting can access any feature and a little bit more, with cs5 this becomes more and more untrue. does anyone have strategic ideas about this issue? turn to flash? c++? or probably just wait whats going to happen. ...
