Yes, I'm referring to the bar you show. I've tried changing the window size and making sure its bottom is showing but still no status bar there. I'm now on InDesign 20.0 and the problem persists. I found a workaround where I can open a window with the Application Frame in view but separate from my document window. Doing so reveals the status bar in the document window, and I can collapse/minimize the AF separately to get it out of my way. However, then I lose my tools and the control bar at the top as they're both attached to the application frame. I can separate and move the tools but not the control bar. Very annoying. Any ideas anyone?

I have the same problem. Working on MacBook Air running OS Sonoma 14.6.1. All windows open in maximized view, no matter what size they were when I saved & closed them. VERY ANNOYING. PLEASE FIX!

Yes, the status bar remains in the document if you close the Application Frame, but only while the document remains open. If you close and reopen the same document outside the Application Frame, the status bar is no longer there. When the agent at Adobe support couldn't help me he said he would investigate further and somebody would call me if there was an answer. To my great surprise they did, to tell me this "feature" was built into the latest InDesign update and that they've had multiple complaints about the issue. She strongly encouraged me to provide feedback on Adobe's User Voice site, and to tell anyone else having this issue to do the same. https://indesign.uservoice.com

When working on and InDesign document, the status bar used to display at the bottom of the window even when the window was independent of the Application Frame (i.e. Application Frame was unchecked in the Window menu). Recently this changed, and it seems that now the status bar is only available when working within the Application Frame, which I don’t like because for me it’s just in the way – it’s a solid window that hides everything on my desktop behind it and stays there in the background as long as InDesign is running, even when I’m not working in InDesign, have no InDesign documents open, and am using another application. I’m currently working on a MacBook Air, OS Sonoma 14.5, InDesign 19.4 (2024). How can I restore the status bar to InDesign documents without using the Application Frame? Here’s what I’ve tried so far, to no avail. Searching online Adobe support and user posts Changing the Workspace to every possible option Ditching preferences Uninstalling then reinstalling InDesign Installing the new InDesign Beta 19.4 (mainline CI #a2e7cc4) Calling tech support Please help! Adobe: if the missing status bar is a bug, please fix. If limiting it to the Application Frame is a new "feature" please revise to make it available again without the Application Frame. Thank you!

Still not working for me either and I'm on the latest version of InDesign (18.2.1). Everthing about this bug seems random... sometimes preview shows, most of the time not. The first post about this was last December... I simply cannot believe Adobe has not fixed this yet!

I ran this test too and found much the same results. Note that for me at least, at “preview not saved” is only a problem when viewing InDesign (ID) files in a FINDER window. Preview always shows when viewing InDesign files in Bridge. So, here’s what I found during my y test: If the ID file contains only an image(s), preview shows. If the ID file contains a font (with or without an image), preview does not show. HOWEVER – there were a few exceptions to this – for a couple of the test docs with a font, preview DID show (e.g. Acumin Pro, Minion Pro). I tried to find some common denominator (font type, foundry, designer, etc) first to the fonts that previewed, then to the ones that didn’t – to no avail. Just too many variables, and too time consuming for me to chase that rabbit. But maybe Adobe has the resources to run with it. Are they even still working on this??

The "correct" answer does work – or rather, it did, once, when I first tried it. But it hasn't worked since, even though "always save preview" is checked. I'm running InDesign 18.1 on a MacBook Pro, OS 12.6.3 (Monterey). In my experience the whole preview issue is incosistent. For example, all InDesign docs preview just fine in Bridge. However, in a finder window (regardless of view in columns, icons, list, or gallery) some files show a preview and some don't, randomly, with no apparent pattern – docoments saved years ago as well as recently may or may not show a preview. Adobe, we expect more from you.

Thank you! This worked!! I did notice that on some of the older files (i.e., saved before the 18.1 update) saving the file brings up the "save as" window and replaces the older version.

Workarounds worked briefly, but now PS 2021 simply crashes. The only thing that works for me is reverting to PS 2020. Am on a Mac, running latest OS (Big Sur) with latest update.
