Hi all,
Thanks for alerting us to this issue. I'm sorry that its affecting your productivity 😞 I can confirm the pixel buffer spread is larger in 26.1 than 26.0 We'll let you know here when we have a solution (other than the work around to fall back to v26.0) Thank you, Meredith

Hi @Alex3000197134s0 Thanks for reaching out. Could you please let me know when it was working perfectly before... November 22nd and 26.1.0? Do you know if you were you on 25.x or 26.0 before it gave random results? Could you please verify your version number? Photoshop: Help > System Info - copy/paste the very top line. It'll look something like this: Adobe Photoshop Version: 26.1.0 20241113.r.121 158e617 arm64 Of course, I'd love to see samples of the random results. If you could please share them here or DM me or email me at my first name at adobe dot com. Thanks again! Meredith

Unexpected Objects Fix for Generative Fill in Photoshop Desktop 26.1 Hello, We have greatly reduced the unexpected/unwanted objects that started popping up in Generative Fill. The fix is mostly client-side, so you will need to update to the latest build of 26.1 (released 11/17-11/19) There are also some server-side changes (in the Firefly server) that went live 11/17, but the main fix requires updating Photoshop. Please retry your examples where the Generative Fill added strange things instead of creating a seamless remove operation. Thank you for your patience and thank you for alerting us to the issues. @careaux the examples you showed (blobs on skin) should be remidied. We appreciate your input! The Photoshop Team

Hello @AntLamb @robertw44482386 - when did you notice a change (day/time) and have you updated to 26.1? Also, can you provide examples, please? Please post in this thread or send directly to me. (My email is my first name at adobe.com ). @robertw44482386 could you provide more details - is it the texture issue for you also? The only day/build something changed was 11/17 we provided an update to 26.1 which contains client-side changes and 11/17 some Firefly server-side changes went live. (See my replyUnexpected Objects Fix for Generative Fill in Photoshop Desktop 26.1) @davem14431122 - I cannot get a bald head either and I sometimes also reproduct the hairless rodent using a screenshot of your file. We'll investigate further. Thank you! Meredith

@robertw44482386 You are correct. PS 26.0.0 + "Remove" in prompt gives the best results with the least amount unexpected inserted objects. PS 25.x + no prompt gives very good results without frequent unexpected inserted objects PS 26.0.0 + no prompt is producing the most unexpected inserted objects among these 3 options. As Stephen noted, we are investigating ways to make sure you always get the best results. Thank you for your feedback! Meredith

New GenFill/Expand Model in 9/9 Photoshop Desktop Beta A test version of the Firefly Model for Generative Fill, Generative Expand, and Reference Image for GenFill in Photoshop for desktop was released to our public Beta on 9/9. The benefits users should see:
better generation quality than the previous beta builds
better prompt understanding compared to previous beta builds.
Fix for the Opacity workflow bug (went to beta on 9/5) This reinstates the ability to use a semi-transparent mask to control the intensity of Generative Fill variations (Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUJSIzCW5L4) or to give a photo a painterly effect (Like this: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zLdLlj712Fg)
Reference Image for Generative Fill improvements (more realistic shadows & scale)
Please grab the latest Prerelease/Beta build and try some Gen-Fill Fun and Gen-Expand Excitement! And don't forget to rev up & revisit Reference Image. We'd love to hear your feedback and see files. Thank you, The Photoshop team

Hi Manu_74,
There was an issue with MacOS 13 that impacted the performance of the Remove Tool, but Apple was able to fix with MacOS 14. They are not going to update MacOS 13.x so you'll need to update the MacOS to 14.6 or newer if you're running into really slow processing times with the Remove Tool. Have you noticed the Remove Tool seems to take a long time? Thanks, Meredith

The new Wire Distractions Removal in the Remove Tool, automatically detects, selects, and removse unwanted wires and cables from your image - seamlessly filling in the gaps as if the wires were never there.
How to use it
Launch Photoshop Public Beta from Sept 1st 2024 or newer.
Open a file with unwanted wires or cables
Choose the Remove Tool
Optional: To work non-destructively, add & select a new layer above the layer with wires and choose "Sample all layers" in the Remove Tool Options bar.
Click on the "Find distractions" button - then choose [Wires & cables] in the One-click removal category.
Photoshop will immediately detect & remove the wires.
Switch between CPU and GPU usage via the Preferences > Image Processing > Remove Tool (Faster = GPU, More Stable = CPU).
Expected Behaviors Notes:
unlike removing People Distractions - there is not an option to preview or change the selection.
does not remove utility poles.
does not eliminate the shadow of the wire.
Performance: For macOS systems, this feature performs best on macOS 14.6 or later.
MacOS 15 beta allows the feature to take advantage of their GPU, resulting in better performance.
We look forward to hearing your feedback and seeing your examples.
Sincere thanks, Meredith & the Remove Tool team Sohrab, Sarah, Betty, Guotong, Yuko, Pablo, Yukie, Quynn, and others

Hello Beta Testers! We're excited to announce the release of an improved Remove Tool in Photoshop (Beta), and we need your help to make it even better. As a valued beta tester, your feedback is crucial in helping us refine and perfect this feature before its official launch.
We're unleashing the power of Firefly inside the Remove Tool – designed to enhance your experience by seamlessly replacing pixels with the best-possible results.
The Remove Tool already has a virtual toolbox of multiple technologies available; it analysis your image and decides which is best to replace pixels you want to remove. Now we're adding generative AI as an option to ensure great results even with a large area or complex background.
Here's how you can get started:
Update Photoshop (Beta) Make sure you have the latest version installed.
Explore the Remove Tool: Navigate to the Remove Tool in the Toolbar.
Accept the Firefly Terms of Use: If you haven't already, agree to the Firefly Terms of Use that appears.
The Mode setting in the Remove Tool is set based on the Terms of Use acceptance. Manually change the Mode setting in the options bar as needed: • Auto (May use generative AI) - default if TOU was accepted • Always use generative AI • Never use generative AI - default if TOU was declined
Use the Remove Tool as usual; it will choose from the best technology to fill each area.
Share Your Feedback: Let us know what you think! Reply to this forum thread or Give it a thumbs up or thumbs down in the Beta Feedback panel.
Things to note: • The Firefly model in Auto can be triggered for a fill area of any size, based on object analysis. Firefly will also be triggered by fill-area size; used for areas greater than 1000px. • No variations provided - a curating technology decides the best result. • The results are returned as pixels on the current, selected layer - the way the Remove Tool has previously worked. Tip: Use the Remove Tool non-destructively; create and target a new blank layer and turn on "Sample all Layers" from the Options Bar.
We appreciate your time and effort in helping us improve Photoshop. Thank you for being an essential part of our beta testing community. We look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Best regards,
Meredith Stotzner

Hello Beta Testers, We're thrilled to inform you about a brand-new feature in Photoshop Beta. We're calling it Distraction Removal, it's part of the Remove Tool, and we can't wait for you to try it out. Distraction Removal, in the July 2024 release of Photoshop Beta, is designed to detect and select the unexpected background (or foreground) people in your image and ready them for removal.
To start using Distraction Removal:
Update Photoshop (Beta). Make sure you have the latest version installed.
Choose the Remove Tool: It lives in the Tool Bar in the same well as Spot Healing brush
Click on the "Find people in background" button in the Options Bar. Detected distractions targeted for removal will be highlighted.
Add to or subtract from the area if desired, by brushing over the canvas after selecting the + or - buttons from the Options bar.
Press Enter/Return on your keyboard or click the Apply checkmark in the options bar.
Share Your Feedback: Let us know what you think!
Reply to this forum thread or
Give it a thumbs up or thumbs down in the Beta Feedback panel.
Tip: Use the Remove Tool non-destructively; create and target a new blank layer and turn on "Sample all Layers" from the Options Bar.
Known Issue: Mac Intel performance is significantly impacted for the detection phase.
Your participation in our beta testing program is immensely appreciated. We rely on your keen observations and honest feedback to make Photoshop the best it can be. Thank you for your continued support! Sincerely, Meredith Stotzner Sr. Product Manager Photoshop Team

Hello The June 7th, 2024 Beta version of Photoshop for Desktop has a new checkbox in the Reference Image fly-out. Remove Background- will automatically identify the area behind the subject in your Generative Fill Reference Image and remove it so you get better results.
This addresses one of the main Reference Image problems of unwanted areas in the Reference Image appearing in the variations.
Remove Background is available in the Reference Image fly-oout for Generative Fill and Generative Expand - which uses the content of the image. It is not available or applicable for Generative Image, which uses a Style Reference Image.
Select Subject technology is behind this feature and it uses mode set by your current preference (Local vs Cloud)(Settings > Image Processing: "Select Subject and Remove Background") .
Select Subject detects and selects the most obvious subject(s) in your image. How well does that work for your Reference Images?
Please give it a try! Let us know if the Remove Background meets your expectations for isolating the subject and providing better results.
Generative Fill -> Reference image -> Remove Background on Reference Image fly-out
Thank you, The Photoshop Team

The April 2024 release of Photoshop (Beta) on the desktop 25.9 previews an early look at the new Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model. This under-development AI technology which powers Photoshop’s generative AI features, will create more realistic and higher-quality content.Everything created with Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Similar, Reference Image, and Generate Background in this beta build is using the new image model. Feedback request:
Please let us know what you think of the images produced by the AI features. Do the results meet your expectations?
Tell us how you will use these results in your projects.
Compare the results with those created using the same methods in the general Photoshop release. Respond in this thread or provide input via the Beta Feedback Panel; click the beaker, next to the blue Share button, in the Photoshop Options Bar.
Known Issues:
If using a mask with opacity to create the selection, Generative Fill does not work as expected.
Groups of people are not generated as expected.
Using the words “realistic” or “hyper-realistic” in the prompt results in the opposite.
We sincerely thank you for your time and genuinely appreciate your feedback to help us improve this technology.
Thank you.

Enhance Detail (Photoshop beta) improves the sharpness of variations generated by Generative Fill. With this improvement, variations can have greater detail clarity and blend more seamlessly with the existing image. This feature is still under development and we are looking forward to your feedback.
Feedback request:
Please provide feedback on the up-sampled results.
Performance: please include your hardware specifications.
Tell us what circumstances you would use this feature.
We’d also like to hear about UI/user experience, discoverability, convenience, and usability.
Respond in this thread or provide input via the Beta Feedback Panel; click the beaker, next to the blue Share button, in the Photoshop Options Bar. Follow these steps to start using Enhance Detail: 1. Generate an object using Generative Fill. 2. Navigate to Properties panel > Variations to select your preferred variation. 3. Hover the cursor over the variation in the Properties panel to reveal the Enhance Detail icon, then click on it.
The results will be refreshed with increased sharpness and detail visible in the document.
The Enhance Detail icon will dim to indicate the enhancement has been applied.
Tips and Tricks:
Generative Expand: This feature is designed to work best for Generative Fill. However, in the Beta we have enabled it for Generative Expand and Background Replace.
Generate Image: Enhance Detail is not supported on text to image layers.
"This result is too small to enhance" is returned when the area selected for Generative Fill or Generative Expand is less than 1000 pixels in both dimensions. This is because the Enhance Detail feature will not have an impact .
Unsupported systems: If you try to enhance a variation and your system is not supported, you may see one of the following messages: "Your system must have at least 8 GB of RAM to use this feature.", "You need macOS 12 or higher to use this feature.", or "Can't use the feature because your system is running Rosetta."
The Enhance Detail feature runs locally on your system, so you do not need to be connected to the Internet to upscale an existing variation
Known Issues:
Undo: In the 4/23/2024 Photoshop beta, a nondestructive workflow has not yet been implemented. Users have the ability to Ctrl + Z to Undo the enhancement while available. Afterwards, the Enhance Detail is permanent.
Noise & Grain: is not added/matched with this feature.
We appreciate your time and value your input. Thank you!

Today we are releasing Photoshop (Beta) on the desktop 25.9 with a sneak peek at an under-construction feature; Reference Image. Reference Image for Generative Fill and Generative Expand allows you to upload an image of your choice, then Generative Fill uses the content of this visual input as a reference to influence the generated results. This means that the output takes inspiration from the content of your provided image in addition to - or - instead of your prompt. A picture is worth 1000 words!
Reference Image for Generative Fill/Expand works differently than the style-based Reference Image in Generate Image (our new beta Firefly text-to-image feature in Photoshop (Beta) on the desktop 25.9); Generate Image uses Style for references, Generative Fill & Generative Expand use Content. Follow these steps to generate variations using Reference Image:
Generate an object or scene using Generative Fill or Generative Expand workflows.
Select the Reference Image icon from the Contextual Task Bar or the Properties panel then Choose image to upload your desired image. Pair this image with descriptive text prompts, if necessary.
Click Generate.
Feedback request:
Please tell us your thoughts on the results.
Let us know how your are using this feature in your workflow.
It’s helpful for us to see 1. the original image 2. the source Reference image and 3. the result. Respond in this thread or provide input via the Beta Feedback Panel; click the beaker, next to the blue Share button, in the Photoshop Options Bar
Tips & Tricks:
The Reference Image icon gains an indicator when a Reference Image is being used.
Isolate the subject of your source reference image and remove the background for a clean result without unexpected objects or transferred background. Like this: Not this:
Known Issues:
Background of source file is visible in result. The current workaround is to remove background of source image.
Use a black or white background to isolate the subject in the source Reference Image. Do not use transparencty.
Make your reference image Canvas Size a 1:1 square ratio (Image>Canvas size) if the results are unexpected and misshapen.
Reference Image results are larger in scale (fill the selection) than non-reference image results.
Thank you for providing information so we can keep building this feature to better enhance your control and creativity.

Dear Community,
On November 7th, 2023, the Firefly for Photoshop service was updated and improved for this issue. You should encounter fewer guideline errors when working on or near skin-tone areas that do not violate the community guidelines.
While the improvement is a big step in the right direction, we are continuing to explore new ways to minimize false-positives. Please continue to give us feedback on this new forum thread and also report false violation errors in the application. Thank you for your patience with the overly-aggressive image violation errors. We recognized there was a bug where images that did not violate our community guidelines were being falsely flagged as such and have been working on this resolution.
Again - thank you.

Thanks for the info Stefan5C6B. When you run into this issue (or similar) where there appears to be bias in the image results... • please use the Report flag for the image (under the ••• on the variation in the Properties panel). Then fill out the Report - please click "Biased content" and "Include image..." - a note about your expectations is helpful, too. • For rejected/violation prompts/images, please click on "Provide feedback"... Then check the box for "Prompt was incorrectly blocked". It's always helpful to include the image, too. Thank you!
