This is where I always get messed up. There's no sense of hierarchy with layers in Illustrator. Groups, paths, compound paths, clippings masks...it's a mess, man. By @Xander36210402r7ns If you do not set up a hierarchy, then there is none.

I see. I've just been able to recreate the issue. What you can try is click on one of the other buttons (extrude, rotate ...) and then back to inflate.

You can still use the smooth tool as before. JUst drag it from where to where you want to smooth and then adjust that part of the path with the slider.

I would then first reboot the computer. And reset the preferences if the reboot does not fix it. For resetting the preferences: quit Illustrator and then rename the preferences folder. This can be made undone in case it doesn't work.

Wunderbar. Das Ganze passiert deswegen, weil Illustrator nach einem Drucker sucht, wenn es Dateien öffnet und wiede sucht, wenn es Dateien speichert. Informationen über den Drucker werden in die Datei geschrieben. Erstellen einer neuen Datei ist im Prinzip ein Öffnen-Vorgang.

For Illustrator SVG is not a native file format. It has to be imported, which can cause issues. Before you exported the PDF, what did you do with the file? Did you check the clipping masks? Were they standard, or probably some clipping mask inside a clipping mask inside a clipping mask? You would need to clean up the file after importing. And then while you are working on it, do not save it as an SVG file, but as the native AI file format.
