Yahoo! Thank you Adobe! We've just been able to install it in Parallels on Silicon Macs from the UK. At last!

I suspect your 2012 machine will be too old, so I'd just do it when the new machine arrives.
So, when the new machine arrives, copy your catalog and all its associated files - there's a free Moving to a New Computer eBook on my website that'll take you through the steps and which files you need to copy. There may be a few catalog files listed that don't exist on your LR5 installation, like the .lrdata file, so you can ignore those.
Then, you can open Lightroom Classic 14 (the current one) and ask it to open your LR5 catalog. Even a trial should be able to do that. Then you can migrate to Lightroom Desktop 8 if you want to go cloud-based, or you can stay on Lightroom Classic 14.

Hi @handandfire, I have some good news for you... while the background options are not changeable on mobile, the background around the photo can be changed on your Mac. Go into Detail view (single-image) and right-click the area around the photo. Then, you get the same options that are available in Classic.

You're welcome @Corniger. Julieanne works for Adobe and is very knowledgeable, so her stuff is always a good bet. The help docs are a bit more hit-and-miss, although we do try to report issues when we find them. It's a full-time job trying to keep everything up to date. Whereas I (and a number of the other experts in this thread) have been doing this from the start, very few Adobe staff have been around so long, so it's more difficult for them to spot issues in older material.

It's nice we get to drive traffic on the Lightroomqueen Blog, why are there no Adobe resources with clear instructions? They should know best....
By @Corniger
My post gets straight to the issues real people are tripping over, so it's getting reposted a lot. If you prefer Adobe resources, try this from Julieanne Kost https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkXDukmBNcg and this Adobe help document https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/remove-tool.html

I believe your Chromebook runs the Android operating system, so if the zip file contains presets in the XMP format, you can open any photo, select the Presets tool, go to the ... button at the top, select Import Presets, and they'll be imported directly as presets in the Yours tab.
If, however, the presets are provided in DNG format inside the zip, then you'd need to unzip it to show the DNG's and import them as photos, as Johan said.

I assume you're using the Local mode in Lightroom Desktop? It currently only reads files directly in the selected folder, not the contents of subfolders. This is different to Lightroom Classic, which does have an "Include Photos in Subfolders" option.

Hi @Laura37859372n5jb, sorry for the delay replying, I've been away. In this context, something went wrong is often a conflict with the graphics driver. If you're still stuck, we'd need more information on your system, which you can find under Help men > System Info.

If you delete the Lightroom Library from the cloud, it empties all of your cloud clients (e.g. mobile devices etc). In Classic, it only marks all the photos and collections as unsynced. Then you choose which photos/collections to sync up again from Classic. The warning, of course, is not to wipe the cloud unless you have a copy of all your files locally in Classic, which generally you would, but the warning has to be given anyway!

The difference in behavior is because you can float over a preset to preview it on the desktop and then click to apply the one you like, whereas on mobile, you tap to preview, then confirm to apply. Do you have any thoughts on how you'd like it to work so you didn't have to confirm to apply? Perhaps a long press to apply without exiting?

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. It reads to me like he couldn't understand what the problem is, so if you'd like to demonstrate to us, we'll be pleased to try to help. Without seeing anything other than the text, my initial thought was that the Opacity for the mask is lower than normal.

Interesting @DdeGannes. Most reports I've seen have done it from LrWeb, but the same result could be achieved by deleting all the photos from All Synced Photos in Classic. It may just be a red herring.

Particularly in LRWeb, go to avatar > Account Info > Delete Lightroom Library or even just deleting everything form the cloud. There seems to be a trend in the mangled collection reports.

@besler how would you envisage it working regarding the crop? Should it temporarily clear the crop when you open the Remove tool? Or only partially remove an object that's partially cropped?

Right now, it's quite clear because the name of the tool is Generative AI. But as it becomes more mainstream, you'd like a preference that disables all generative AI, is that right? Where do you draw the line? Tools that use AI at all, like the AI based masking tools that just create the selection, or just tools that create new pixels? There's definitely a wider conversation to have around this topic.

Clone, Heal and Geometry have been around for donkey's years so I don't think there's any AI involved. Hopefully the definition of what is socially acceptable AI will get clearer over time.

It is not an import as it doesn't get added to the library. It just copies files.
By @Jao vdL
Yes that's fair, perhaps we're tripping over the word import. It doesn't import them into a library as it would with the cloud side, but it can copy the files to the hard drive so it doesn't require switching to Finder.
I'm currently traveling but here's one of the screenshots I've got in the book. When copying from a device to a hard drive in Local mode, there's a dialog like the normal import dialog. (I'd reduced it down to only show one of the thumbnails for space, but there's a whole grid of thumbnails to select.)
