What you see is correct. Current versions of Lightroom are not compatible with Windows 10 and Mac OS12 or earlier. Basically there are too many new features that cannot work with the older OS's anu longer and the older OS's are not supported by their issuers.....
You can stay with th older versions, upgrade your OS if possible or as I did buy another newer laptop that uses the latest OS.... I spent just $350US on a Macbook Air M1 used p not perfect but gets things done.
Lightroom and Photoshop have very different coding so yes Photoshop can still work for you but with warnings!!

What Jim has stated is correct .. and yes there are different perspectives on what could be used as default. However the wise minds in the team have concluded over a very long period that having the original aspect ration as default works in most situations and there is not a loud voice for change. You can always file a feature request though.

Greetings... caralogs size ought not affect performance but for some it seems to.
saying that your catalog is on the smaller size, previews take up most space along with image files.
On a basic MacBook with just 8Gb ram I keep my catalog on an external SSD which works well. Catalog and previews is more than 200GB.. Image files are on a separate external SSD
you should have no issues

Great you have a good resut.. I notice in your original post you stated you have Backups with in the Catalog Folder.. that is the default however if the drive crashed you would lose the catlog and backups. So next time you Backup the Catalog change the Destination of the back up in the back up window to a different drive. If you don't have another drive consider your strategy.

Hello... first of all welcome and we will get you sorted but
DONT IMPORT AGAIN!! It is almost never the answer.
so we need to understand clearly what you did to move the catalog and how you tried linking the images again.
are you not seeing the NAS on your Mac? Does Lightroom see the NAS??

Seems strange..
first if you have a backup, copy it. Then see if that opens with the files showing as expected.
if it does replace the faulty one with the back up, not the copy as the names won't match.

A pretty good start would be star your Lightroom version, OS, where the files are located and where you are trying to move them. see Lightroom is a database and calls the OS to move the files so the issue you have (and it is not anything common I can tell you) is related to the OS operations. But you have provided no information. Please do so.
Screen shots inserted using the Icon for photo insertion in the Reply tool bar would also help.

In your screen shot the only Catalog is 'Private' as I have indicated. The other files are sidecar files associated with the catalog and Previews. If you double click or right click the file 'Private' it will open with LrC.
To consolidate other Catalogs with Private first make a back up of Private. Next open Private once more and chose Import from another Catalog and navigate to the other .lrcat files you wish to import from

Hello.... Lr6 is no longer supported or compatible with recent operating systems. So while a new MBP for your wife is ideal Lr6 can not be used on any operating systems compatible with it. Lightroom 6 was the last standalone version and released in 2015 so almost 9 years ago. Much has changed in that time.
I do recommend you update to the current Lightroom Classic v13 on a subscription plan, that can be used on both older and current OS's of Macs. Keep in mind Apple no longer use Intel chips so your older Mac will soon be unusable as PowerPC ones are redundant now.

Hi Lyndsey!!
In my use of Macs since 1996 I have always been wary of and avoided Non Apple apps like this. Most have 'infected' Macs and cause more issues than they solve. Trying to remove them completely usually means wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS and apps.... of course they are designed so you 'use' them an hence feel they are 'useful'.. that's how they sell and run their business. My recommendation is to view Activity Monitor if you are having issues and remove the foreigner....

I hope you didnt import the images from your hard drive rather than the old catalog. You will have lost a lot of information and settings.
I have my catalog on an external drive with images and no issue. There was somethng else happening with yours.
