Try to use an selection with lower opacity before generating. E. g. use the selection brush with an opacity between 10 and 30 to select the cat. Then use Generative Fill and there add the image with the surrealism effect as a style reference.

It is a pity that this function is gone. I hope Adobe supplies a better solution not too far in the future after this and also the cloud-sync version for presets have been abandoned.

This tool does not exist in either my old machine or new machine.
To proof your claim please post a screenshot that includes the Edit > Presets menu.
By @c.pfaffenbichler
"Import/Export presets" has been removed by Adobe some Photoshop-versions ago. That is fact not just a claim. Otherwise you could proof with a screenshot that these still exist in the current Photoshop-versions on your computers (which would be not as expected and a bug).

unlike these other built-in filters. ACR does not have a handy way to pull the image stack data out of Photsohop and present it in the UI.
Hi Mark,
we don't need the whole image stack-data, but only two things in the »Camera Raw-Filter«:
1. a merged stack in Camera Raw (no problem, can even be solved with an action),
2. transparency-information of the currently targeted layer, which ACR already supports, and which makes sure, that only the non-transparent parts of a layer/Smart Object are changed.
The merging could be scripted (e.g. hold down Alt while launching Camera Raw to use this workflow) and the merged layer could also be discrard when leaving the filter.
So there is "only" one thing to solve in the »Camera Raw-Filter«: Replace the displayed checkerboard transparency with the merged layer, but handle the current object like before. And that would open up the whole power of the great masking-tools and their workflow for compostiting. I am no engineer so I have to believe you if you say, that this seemingly simple viewport option was hard to realize. 😉

Not every other filter. The "traditionsl" filters (green below) have a Preview function like you describe.
The "newer" filters (yellow below) all have a modal dialog where only the active layer is visible, and you don't see the composite result until you commit and return to the document.
OK, then let's do some real wise-cracking. 😉
Yellow: Vanishing point and Liquify both show the layers beneath. Their comp-view is essential for their use.
Yellow: To call the Filter gallery, Adaptive Wide Angle and Lens correction NEW is brave. 😉 They are barely needed anymore by most users and also don't profit from a comp-view.
Green: Some "traditional" filters don't even have any preview, those are probably never needed these days anymore.
So, what I wanted to say, is that all important filters do have a comp-view. And the »Camera Raw-Filter« should also have one, because that would be a real gamechanger for compositing.

It would be an absolute game-changer if we could see the other layers (at least below the active one) like in every other filter. I have been begging Adobe for this composite-view for years. 🤷:male_sign:

My toolbar only take half the height of my screen, even though I have more tools added than what is visible. Is there a way to extend the size of the visible toolbar towards the bottom of the screen?
The double-column view of Photoshop's toolbar is restricted to the height you see in your screenshot.
If you want to see more tools at once, the only way currently is to switch to the single row view as shown in @bojan's screenshot.
Edit: When I tried this the other day, the toolbar did not update its height. After a reboot of my Mac it is extending as expected, when tools are moved out of their groups.
I would also like a more modern solution like a freely scalable toolbar, with more columns and rows, with tear-off toolgroups and stuff. But it is as it is, and I doubt that Adobe will improve this soon.

This is not the Premiere but the Photoshop (Beta) forum. Maybe some moderator can move your question to the proper forum, but I guess it'll be faster, if you just create a new post over there. 👉 Link

Are you sure, that you have the brush tool selected and not the Eraser tool?
There is no brush blend mode that would cause white and black to both subtract from the mask.

I can confirm that the transform-options in the contextual menu are missing in Photoshop Beta.
The Transform-options are still available and usable through the app-menu and by using the default modifier keys (Alt, Shift, Command). But this has to be fixed ASAP and at least before releasing this Beta version as the main version.

It is just because of a bad UI design change in the Creative Cloud app. You have to click on the tiny arrow at the right to get to see the app sections hidden beneath it. I almost get this question daily since Adobe changed the CC-App's design this way. 😕

Photoshop's own full screen mode hides all UI-elements – including the contextual taskbar. You can display them by all by pressing the tab-key. Photoshop's full screen mode with menu bar should show all UI elements expect for the application and window frames.
Different from this is the OS-full-screen mode (on macOS at least), which you can turn on in the "preferences > workspace > Enable native full screen". Here the app goes full screen, but keeps all UI-elements except the app menu bar (which can be set in the OS setting to keep being visible in full screen mode).

In addition to what droopy wrote:
In Photoshop the prompt for "Generative Fill" or "Generate Image" is saved in the generative object, unless you rasterize the layer.
In Photoshop Beta's Generative Workspace there is a prompt/image history, unless you delete the created history steps there.

You have to save an action from the Action-set (you can not export a single action) panel's menu:
I would not recommend to copy and paste the file "Actions Palette.psp" (in the preference folder), where your action is temporarily saved.

When I click on the tool it formulates a copy of my entire image
From this I recon that you have deactivated the »clipped«-option in the clone-source panel. Solution:
Open »Window > Clone source«
Activate the »Clipped« check box
OR
Deactivate »Show overlay« completely.

The channels panel shows a composite view for all layers. So if you paste the red channel's pixels as a layer, the channels panel only sees the grey pixels from that layer and not the color from the background-layer. You hast have to temporarily toggle off the visibility of the grey layer with the red channel's pixels to see the original channels in the channels panel again.
By the way, other than for learning purposes today I would not recommend such convoluted workflows anymore.

Your image has a color depth of 32 Bit (as shown in its tab). Switch it to 16 Bit to get most filters to work, and to 8 Bit so that all filters work. Use »Image > Mode > XY Bit/channel« for it.

In order to align elements to each other by clicking on the buttons or using the menu-commands, you have to select at least two layers.
If you want to align to the full canvas, you have to select all (Cmd-A) to make the align-options active.
This has never been different in Photoshop – at least in the last 20 years. 😉

You probably have an image in 32-Bit mode. "Save as" or "Save copy" are not capable to create a JPEG from that. You'll have to use "Export as" or reduce the mode to 16 or 8 Bit in order to be able to use "Save as" or "Save for Web". HTH

Hi,
how can I get back the previous layout of Firefly? I liked, how …
all controls where on the right side (just like in Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator … where the most important panels are all on the right side of the screen). The new layout with all controls on the left side feels awkward in the Adobe universe.
the generated results are displayed in a two-by-two grid, instead of the tiny thumbnails now with one large image at a time. This makes evaluating the results very cumbersome.

The Remove tool is not as fast yet as the Spot healing tool. And in certain circumstances (many small details, spots in gradients like the sky …) one of the three modes of the older spot healing tool produces better results. So I am quite glad, they did not replace the Spot healing tool with the new remove tool. For testing having a new tool is easier, but I would not mind if both tools are merged into one eventually.
