Having the video (and temporary files) on a 2nd drive will help... as long as it is USB3 or eSata

A possibility is this USB3 dock with fan to swap 'bare' drives for backups http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SuperSpeed-Docking-Station-Cooling/dp/B0055PL2YI or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147511

You will need to have it plugged in, since laptops reduce performance when on battery power

You will also need a cooling pad since video editing put a LOT of strain on the CPU

Such as... https://www.amazon.com/AICHESON-Cooling-Notebook-MacBook-Computer/dp/B07CGMHP24/
