Resolve is free, but you're limited to UHD 4K. Anything above that and it's $995. Which still isn't bad. But yeah, Resolve 11 will be worth looking at for editing and grading.

Wow.. I always signed the free version off as some kind of cripple-ware that couldn't possible be useful for anything professional. How wrong I was! I just checked out the comparison between the free version and the paid version and not many features are missing:

Blackmagic Design: DaVinci Resolve 11 Compare

Looks like there is finally a free editing program that can fully take on Premiere and Final Cut!

I Do not know about taking on PP and AE!

Downloaded it yesterday watched a couple of tutorials, needed as it did not see my video files.

No good for MTS  files but OK for Mov's

Nothing like the effects the PP has, colour grading is impressive.

Useful addition, but I will not be buying the full version
