Question

Upgrading from 6 to 7

We weren't really looking to upgrade from 6.1 to 7.x, but we had to get a new dedicated server, so we figured this was as good a time as any. We purchased the upgrade today.

This new server won't have ColdFusion installed on it yet. Is it possible to install the 7.x "upgrade" I bought/downloaded, without first installing 6.1? Seems silly (and messy) to install both in the same day, just to turn around and uninstall 6.1.

The quick answer is YES. You can download the installer here (just navigate yourself to the trial downloads), then run it as it is. When the installer asks you for your CFMX 7 license, it will detect if you have a full or upgrade license. Since u have an upgrade license, it willl ask you for your 6.1 key. When you deploy this server, you can now take down your old 6.1 machine.

    I should clarify.

I do HAVE 6.1. It's installed on the old server. I'm wondering if I have to install it first, or if maybe if the 7.x installer will prompt me for a 6.1 serial number, or something.

    Thanks.
