Video Hardware

We would like suggestions on upgrading two identical PCs.  (Hardware is not our strength, nor is the hardware lingo, so please take these descriptions and word choices with a grain of salt.  We will have a local hardware expert do the rebuild and set up.)  We edit HD (and potentially higher) projects that typically exceed two hours.  We also use Lightroom for processing images with file sizes typically at 40 – 50 meg.  We just added an 80T NAS (with other NAS backups) that has 10G LAN speed, but we currently only have a 10/100/1000.  We process the images from the NAS.  We typically store the video files on the NAS, but copy them to a local drive while editing.  For short video projects, we’ve been able to edit leaving the files on the NAS.  We are adding an Nvidia Quadro P5000 to drive new 10 bit monitors and for video processing.The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5, with a Core i7 950 @3.07GHz, and 12 GB RAM.  The mobo can support only

I am about to edit a huge project and want to know if others have allotted separate hard drives for their editing workflow. I am using a 6TB Lacie Thunderbolt d2 to store all of my media. Should I use my other 4TB hard drive to edit with as well? So for instance, the 6TB for reading and the 4TB for writing? How do others divide their media cache files? Most of my media are .mov files from a 5D3 with a few mixed formats, such as EX1 footage and iPhone and GoPro. Currently, I have my 6TB Thunderbolt attached to my MacBook Pro and rendering times are obnoxiously long - every time I make a change to a single clip on the timeline, long rendering times start all over and I can't get any work done. I want to be able to see my effects that I apply without having to render selection or in and out each time. [Moderator note: moved to best forum]

I just bought the new 2017 27" iMac and it's been awhile since I've edited video. I have a slew of 2013ish LaCie hard drives that have firewire 800 and USB 3.0 (b type) outputs that have plenty of room on them for editing and I'd like to continue using them before buying new hard drives. I only have firewire cables, and I couldn't find a firewire 800 to thunderbolt 3 adapter, so now I'm daisy-chaining Firewire 800-Thunderbolt 2-Thunderbolt 3. How stupid is this and what would you recommend aside from buying all new hard drives with thunderbolt. Is USB 3.0 the better way to go?

Hi all,I'm looking to purchase a secondary computer for editing away from the office. It doesn't need to be as much of a workhorse but does need to get the job done! I work for a nonprofit so budget is definitely a consideration. I work on mostly short videos for web viewing but sometimes have to do heavy color work and resizing (nature drone ftg). Mostly 1080p with occasional 4K. I do often run Photoshop simultaneously. I've done research online but am a bit overwhelmed by all the info and terminology. I am fairly comfortable with tech and a fast learner but new to the Mac world, specs and Premiere. I am not set yet on laptop/desktop. I do think Mac is the best way to go because our primary editing computer is a Mac and I figured it'd be a smoother transition when working on the same project on 2 different computers. I am having major issues in terms of no video playback and no functional source monitor. When creating new projects or opening old projects the video output does not at all work. When playing from a point in the timeline there is a normal audio output (at normal speed, as if the video was playing too), but the playhead does not move and the project monitor is blank. If I try and use the source monitor a similar issue occurs, I will double click on a clip, to send it to the source monitor and the source monitor window gets a blue outline, and a playhead, like usual. Here too there is now video output, just blank.The footage I am using is 4K (3840 x 2160) in resolution and 30p or 60p in frame rate. It is GH5 footage, but I have trans-coded all this footage into H.264 through Adobe Media Encoder to mitigate any GH5 inflicted issues. Furthermore, this issue is not limited to video files out of the GH5, but all video and image files in any timeline from any project, whether that be opening

Premier Pro CS5.5 doesn't allow me to capture video from any of my cameras, including my Sony HDV-FX7, and the same for SONY TRV720.  The research I have done points to Windows 10 not supporting the fire wire port on my computer [Intel core i7 950 Processor (4x3.06BHz/8MB L3Cache), NVIDA Geforce GTX 460 - 2GB - Single Card (Video Card), 2ea. 1TB Hard Drives, with 24TB optional storage].Originally Windows 7 was installed and was working fine, but the "Arm Twisting" of the Windows 10 team finally got to me, (I am sorry to say).  The Windows team suggested I buy some type of "RCA jack to USB2" interface and try that.  There are several choices available, from $40-over $100, and reviews are mixed, and I couldn't find where any of them clearly state that they will support DV & HDV video capture.  I am also concerned that USB2 has been said to have issues capturing video?I would like to know what others (who must have similar issues) have done to overcome this type of

I was inordinately proud to hold forth place on the PPBM5 results table for a while, and still sit at 17th.  My system was running 4.4Ghz at the time, but has long since stopped liking to be OC'd (I give the fans and rad a spring clean once a year).   The bottom line is that I think this forum is solid gold for anyone building an NLE system, so I'm hoping for some guidance with my next build.It's a probably bit early to be asking about X299 builds, but the new CPUs and chipset were announced the very week I committed to the new build, so I am planning as much as I can while awaiting more information.  I'm looking at the i9-7920X, or at the very least 7900X, for the lanes, but a question I have right now, is could I get away with bumping the GTX970 to the new build? As mentioned above, this forum helped me with my current build five years ago, which used a 3930K, X79-UD5, 32Gb DDR3, and GTX570.  The GPU was later swapped for the GTX970 to drive additional screen

Hi Everyone. I have almost 1 Terabyte of source footage of an entertainer. It's footage of many of his one hour shows, his music videos, his interviews etc....Some of it is high quality HD,  and some of it is low quality SD from VHS tapes.I plan to pull various segments from all of that footage to create a 15-20 minute video Demo showing his varied work.The source footage is all now filed on two internal drives on my system (7200 rpm SATA). Also, I just built this system, so it's a very fast, 64 bit Windows 10 machine with 64 Gigs of RAM and very fast video card.My editing drive is a USB 3, G Raid 4 Terabyte set up as RAID OMy Media Cache Drive is a 1 terabyte USB 3My Export/Previews Drive is a 1 Terabyte USB 3 Here's my question.Should I copy ALL of the source footage from the two internal drives over to the RAID 0 drive and start editing? Or, can I leave the source footage where it is and edit the project from the RAID 0? My gut says to copy all the footage over, because then I'

I've got Gtx750 and updated to latest Nvidia drivers, 382.53, but still the same error with CUDA rendering.The only Solution is to Render without Cuda! Just Software Mercury.But, If i use the software to rendering the movie,(besides taking forever to do it) the Lumetri effects and some transitions suddenly stop working and my entire project turn into a crap.Please, Please i need help.PS: I can buy a new video card. Buongiorno,devo acquistare Premiere Pro CC2015 da installare sul mio PC-Desktop Acer Veriton X2631G con Windows 7 Service Pack 1 a 64 bit, però ho qualche dubbio sulla compatibilità dei requisiti richiesti. Come già mi è stato spiegato, la RAM da 4GB può essere aumentata fino a 16GB quindi non ci sono problemi. Non so invece se va bene la CPU e scheda video: Il pc monta una CPU Intel Pentium G3240 3 MB di cache, 3,10 GHz con abbinata scheda grafica Intel HD Graphics. Premetto che ho già visionato questo link Premiere Pro requisiti di sistema per Mac OS e Windows, ma non ho capito molto in quanto dice solo  CPU  Multicore a 64 bit.Per questo vorrei capire se posso acquistare senza problemi oppure spendo solo i soldi?

Hey Guys,  I am very new to editing with Adobe Premier, I have only used it to edit film in school. However, I am thinking of purchasing the software at home as well. I have a drone (the Phantom 3 Advanced) and it films 2.7K video. I really need advice as to what kind of computer I should purchase that can handle this kind of video and be able to run Adobe Premier smoothly? I don't need fast export time, just a computer that can handle the software and video without skipping while I am attempting to edit. My price range is not the best... I was really hoping to keep the price under $1,000 however, I am open to all opinions. Also, I don't care weather it is Mac or Windows - laptop or desktop.Thanks,   Tyler W

Hello all!I'm looking for a new desktop setup on a budget.I make comics. My pages are usually around 3000x5000px.I don't use filters but I use liquify a lot.And various color layers and many, many layers in my workI also use wacom cintiq 13hd.My current desktop yields awful results. I'm going to invest in a Macbook Pro soon. I have chosen this over PC just because of how my job goes (we all use Macs its just easier to keep it all in the same vein). Just as some context, I work with the Adobe suite so Premiere, AE, Illustrator, Lightroom and Indesign mostly. I won't be working with 4K a lot unless it is simply cutting and assembling and color in Premiere (so no heavy manipulation and effects) and I don't intend to get a 4K camera myself for awhile (I might however want to work with Black Magic cameras). I plan to do a lot of work in After Effects (motion graphics and instructional videos, etc), and I do work on a magazine and other design things.So my concern is, will the new Macbook Pro's hold up? I don't expect them to be super fast on renders and exports, but simply can I work on the timeline without having to stop and without any stutters and lag as my current HP laptop does?
