I will attempt to answer your question but I am going to assume that the font in question is a Asian character and if so, I am in very uncharted waters.

Typically when a font changes after conversion to a PDF, it's because the original font could not be embedded into the document and Acrobat is grabbing what it can from your system or its own generic fonts.

Can you confirm that you have the fonts properly installed within your system?

Can you share a screenshot?

Also, if you are using InDesign CC that implies that you have a current Creative Cloud plan. If so, why are you using the outdated Acrobat X Pro. That is old software at this point and may also be part of your problem.

Lastly, how are you creating the PDF? Are you using the PDF generation from within InDesign (Command/Control-e) or are you doing something like Print to PDF?

Oh, one more question: what is your OS (and what version) and do you in fact have a subscription to the Creative Cloud?
