I´ve got it: The main frame had a text size. It shouldn´t. I put it on 0,1 pt and now it´s fine.

My questiion is, why do you anchor you one text frame after the other? I don't see any need for it. But why this complicated method? why? By @Willi Adelberger Thanks Willy! Okay, you asked me several times so I'll try to explain 🙂 It is a table of contents. I know there are many other ways to deal with this. But in this particular case I need separate “blocks” that can be quickly changed in order and its background color manually: via drag and drop.

Hi In a text frame that contains some anchored objects (also text frames), I don't want to have any space between the objects. Now the line spacing is set to automatic. When I change it manually there is no gap but also no clean arrangement. How can I make the anchored objects run cleanly one after the other without any gaps? regards

Hi. It's just an idea, but is it possible to compare and verify whether two or more prices are correct (same)? There are many objects (items) on many pages, so I need a quick way to check the correctness of the prices. I wanted to do it with a script (javascript). Can I combine two text frames (not a chain or anchored object!) to get a reference to each other? Please take a look at the attached graphic. My minimum aim is to check prices with the same color. This is just a dummy! The original has no colored prices. 🙂 But character- and paragraph-styles. Never mind, if you mean it is a stupid idea. Not that important. 😉

If I check the page items with AcrobatPro’s Object inspector, they all inspect as DeviceCMYK—no profile Hi rob day I did a test and gave the image (upper half) an SC paper profile with Photoshop: When I checked in Acrobat, it still didn't show a profile. Is it possible that you can't see it at all at this point?

Dear contributors The initial question in this thread was whether the onboard tools from Adobe can achieve qualitatively comparable results as the third-party software from callas. Many responses have been received that delve deep into the topic. Thanks for that!
Unfortunately for me, at a certain point I reach the limits of my knowledge when it comes to the physics of color management. Also due to lack of time and lack of influence on the entire workflow, it is not in my hands to change basic processes (such as the exclusive use of RGB images). Therefore, I can unfortunately not implement some well-intentioned advice. What really helps me here is a "brave", concrete answer as to whether my settings are objectionable in this form when exporting to InDesign, or whether they are correct (see attached image in my first post). They look logically correct to me, but unfortunately sometimes you don't see everything yourself. So I take from rob days' first answer that they are probably correct. It's good. Also, his answer confirms my suspicion that you don't actually need any additional software. The only thing I miss here is the (automatic) identifier "FOGRA40". I don't know how important that is. The printer's specifications require it. It can be entered manually in the export settings under "Identification of the initial condition". This has no effect, it is only displayed. The only reason I haven't marked the answer as correct so far is that I'm still unsure overall. As described, I get different results with the two methods. See also my 4 attachments with the color samples. That led me to my next question: about the settings in callas. These are numerous and require a lot of expertise. But I don't want to go into that any further now. As I noticed, only a few people in this forum have experience with the pdfToolbox. Nevertheless, I have attached a screenshot of the profile I created in callas.
Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this. regards

If you care about matching appearance then you would have to use Edit>Convert to Profile... rather than Edit>Assign Profiles... That´s good hint. Placed images do not get converted, so make sure any placed images are RGB with embedded profiles, so the images are converted from profiled RGB to document CMYK on the export. I'm afraid I can´t avoid having different kind of pictures (RGB and CMYK). There is more than one source for the photos. The correct conversion should therefore take over the application when exporting or at the latest when profiling with callas. Maybe this is why we use complementary software (?). 😞

They may have similar values, but you can clearly see a visual difference. And more importantly, the printer asked for profiling. No choice. 🙂

I have defined custom CMYK colors in InDesign and use them for elements on the cover and content pages. Only when I export the documents (content and cover are different documents) do they get their own profile. Or at the latest when I do it with the pdfToolbox (depending on how I will use it later). The profile I'm using I downloaded from: https://www.color.org/registry/SC_paper_eci.xalter

Hi Rob. Sorry for my late reply, I had to be in the office at my true color monitor to check a few things before replying. That sounds logical for me. It could be the easiest and also the fastest way to get ready-to-print documents. We've been using this (callas pdfToolbox) plugin for a long time (before I was here) and I'm wondering if we could do without it. On the other hand, I hoped to get a deeper insight into color management by comparing both methods. As an example, I prepared 4 sheets with different output: 1. without profile and without color converting 2. do all the work with InDesign PDF export tool 3. one-Step-Job in callas (conversion with an already created profile) 4. two-step job in Callas (first the color conversion tool, then profiling with PDF X4) And the result amazes me. Especially between point 2 (which is how I would like to do it) and 4 (which is how we have been doing it all along). The biggest difference in the CMYK colors is usually seen in yellow. The colors become "warmer" due to the profiling from InDesign. For the paper we use (SC paper) that might not be the best. The paper itself has a warm note. Strangely there are no color shifts when converting RGB colors. So, I´m confused. 😞

Hello rob This is what I did: separate sheets with different profiles. I'm just wondering if you get the same result when exporting with profiles in InDesign and with the Callas application. It really doesn't look like it on my screen.

Hi everybody. My following question is a larger topic, but I just want to keep it as simple as possible: PDF export to InDesign with a press-ready color management. The framework conditions: MAC OS, InDesign CC21, Adobe DC Professional, callas pdfToolbox (as a plugin or use independently of an application). The output (ISO Coated V2 for the cover and SC paper (ECI) for the content) goes to a printing house. In recent years, our workflow has been as follows: - do the job with InDesign - Export PDF - Separating the pages into individual pages - Converting colors in Acrobat using the pdfToolbox plugin (this step for SC paper content only) - Profiling PDF X4 (with custom profile) in Acrobat with pdfToolbox plugin After that, the catalog was ready for printing. The conformance in Acrobat shows (for the content): PDF/X-4, Identifier is FOGRA40 and Profile Info is SC Paper (ECI). I'm wondering if I don't use the plugin and create the color conversion job using the Adobe tools, can I get the same result with it? Please see the screenshot showing the settings in the InDesign exporter. Of course I've already tried it, but in fact it was a big visual difference to the result with the callas pdfToolbox. So something might not be right there. Color management is a big topic, I know, but what's the mistake in this case? To me the way with onboard tools sounds reasonable. 🙂 I would appreciate your answers

Hello guys. Thank you for help. They are both very powerful tools. And I would use it BUT: There are more than 300 items in the catalog that I need to change. I wanted to do it with a shortcut (keyboard shortcut to the script). Without the need to change any options. Do you think the script I started could do that? Of course with the appropriate correction in the script. If you say it's not possible, then of course I have to do it differently.

Hi. If I have a textframe like this: Title Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text 333333 Text € 0,00 555555 Text € 0,00 999999 Text € 0,00 111111 Text € 0,00 Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text ... and if I "only" like to sort the paragraphs with six-digit numbers at the beginning (descending order), is the following script a helpful approach: letsGo() ;
function letsGo() {
var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
var mySelection = myDoc.selection;
var allSelection = mySelection.length;
var myText = mySelection[0];
var ArtNrs = [];
app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '\\n';
app.changeGrepPreferences.changeTo = "~b";
myText.changeGrep();
app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '\\d{6}';
var findings = myText.findGrep();
var findingsLength = findings.length;
for (var i=0; i<findingsLength; i++){
ArtNrs.push (findings[i].paragraphs[0]);
findings[i].paragraphs[0].remove();
}
alert(ArtNrs.sort());
app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing; // Suchfeld leeren
app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing; // Ersetzen-Feld leeren Two issues: findings[i].paragraphs[0].remove(); doesn´t delete. And How to insert the sorted lines? Thanks in advance

... and my next question would be if it´s possible to create an array (expandeble) with the colors and insert it in the loop. something like: var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
var mySelection = myDoc.selection[0];
var farben = [['Rot'],['Blau'],['Grün'],['Schwarz'],['Weiß'],['Gelb'],['Orange'],['Braun']];
scriptTimer();
function scriptTimer(){
app.findGrepPreferences = null;
app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '\\d{6}.+?\\t\\K\\b('+farben+')\\b' ;
colours = mySelection.findGrep();
for (i = colours.length-1; i >= 0; i--) {
colours[i].contents = colours[i].contents.toLowerCase();
}
}
app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing; ... of course, this didn´t work.

I'm sorry for being late. But the flu made me inoperative. 🙂 That was a good hint Peter. Thanks. But take a look at the result... before: after: The second word was not changed. If I fill it up with more lines, only in every second paragraph (line) the word will be change. #UPDATE: It was the ^ (at the begining of the paragraph) I don´t know why the algorithm did´n like that. I would be more relaxed if the expression would be as exact as possible. 🙂

- generate an array (I can expand if I need) of color names - search in a loop for paragraphs (only those beginning with 6 numbers) which contains a word (color name) after: (^\d{6}.\t) and before (~y€\s\d{1,},\d{2}$) --> every line contains only one color at that place (sometimes connected with a hyphen, unfortunately) - if the word is at the list (array) and first character is upper case --> change it to lower case I hope the explanation is understandable 🙂

I think that wouldn't work Uwe. Can't imagine how to change with a GREP within a paragraph style only the first character of certain words from upper case to lower case. There are a lot of colors I have to change occasionally but also other words (like silver, in german Silber) with capitalized first letter. So I have to do that with a script including a list of colors have to be changed. My idea was to do the changes depending on the first 6 characters in each line: every line with 6 digits at beginning is a candidate. And there is my problem, I don´t know how to select.
