Actually tech support said I and they could activate/deactivate but that because my email wasn't attached to the serial number of the program, they couldn't do it.... the also said I could deactivate the one copy of the program that I have on my computer and try to re-activate on my new laptop but that it might cause a problem because I have 6 activations. I have not been impressed with Adobe's customer support over the years so my next move will be lateral to another company if I move, not dig myself into a deeper hole with Adobe...... The issue is that they have a record of my serial number and it's has been stolen from me, whether or not they have support, I would think they would want to know how a copy of their program's ownership was transferred without the owner signing the required paperwork in order to sell it.... or of course they may not care either.....

Hello.. I was trying to install a copy of Lightroom 6 to a new computer and got the message that I had to deactivate some copies. I went to my account and Lightroom 6 was wiped from my list of apps. I called tech support and they told me that my email was no longer tied to the serial number and they couldn't tell me which email was. I told them that I bought Lightroom 6 new and use it almost every day for years and that it's my copy and serial number. I asked how it's possible that someone else's email is tied to my serial number and they replied "Maybe you sold it1" (LOL). I looked online about selling a license and it said that in order to sell a license both seller and buyer have to fill out a form and submit it to Adobe. That never happened(or at least I never filled out a form), so the license has been stolen from me. Who do I contact(do they have a security department?) to find out how my license was transferred without my permission and how I get it back... thanks! David

I'll work on it tomorrow but it sure makes me wonder how lightroom can move a series of photos from different folders back into the main directory unless it's a Windows problem because I have had complete folders absolutely disappear(and never found) from Windows when they were there the night before.... and while we're talking about weird little idiosyncracies- I have to mention that the default Adobe profile photo here is a really bad choice. I would never use a skeleton as my profile photo.... I have to find one that's a little more representative of me....

Good suggestions! Keywords won't work because I put them in the place folder already so I didn't use place as a keyword(although I will add it since I go to Thailand and Greece every year so my places are duplicating and I'm going to want to search for places in multiple years now) so keywords will be everything under the sun.... but I think that date will help narrow it down... and if I do it by date I'll have the added benefit of re-living the trip day by day! 😉 thanks....

I was going through old photos in Lightroom from 2015..... My directories run Year-Country-Places in Country... I noticed that about 25 of my 30 Thailand place folders were empty ("0"). The 5 folders that had all their images were right were they were supposed to be in the "Thailand Folder"(both in Windows Explorer and Lightroom Classic 6.0. After searching every harddrive and backup I couldn't find them. Then I noticed that the "2015" folder had a lot more images than if you added up the number of images in the sub-folders. I opened the "2015" folder and all the missing photos were there. Somehow they were removed from the "Thailand" subfolders but remained in the "2015" folder(The folders with the images still with them are spaced randomly throught the whole "Thailand" directory and the empty files remained so there is no way I could have inadvertantly deleted the files in 25 random folders-and I think that would have deleted them in the "2015" folder also So here's the problem. How to I get the 3500 images back into their original folders without going 1 by or in small groups. I found some old backups from 2018 which hopefully will have all the "2015" photos in their correct "Thailand" folders. I'm thinking that if I open or restore the 2018 I'll have my images in the right folder(but I'm going to be missing 5 years of images) and then I can choose the folders with the missing images in them and then export those photos in a catalog(or export the catalog and folders without the photos?). I've never really had to restore a catalog(and this is actually a partial catalog) before, so I'm not sure exactly what the steps are... I don't want to restore the old catalog from the backups because it's incomplete and missing 5 years... I really just want to open it up without interferring with my present catalog and move the 20 complete folders to my present catalog....which will hopefully find the images in the "2015" folder and make my "Thailand" folder complete again... Anyone have some step by step or general suggestions on how to do this? thanks, David

thanks ..... it works absolutely fine with some keywords and not at all with others... and when it does work, it works fine! So it seems to me that it's something to do with the individual keywords and something to do with them... the 1000+ that did work were very easy to do and the slot opened up but the ones that don't work just won't open the slot... it will only highlight on or the other of the top level keywords.... I have about 50 keywords now that just won't work... not matter what... so I'm opening up all the photos and removing the "<top level keyword" in the list of keywords....and once I do that it's moving the last keywords out of the child position to top level...

thanks John... that helps to make less words to sift through, but I think my bug is not the normal 1500 Keyword bug... even with only the one keyword there, the slot won't open....

I have about 1500 and most are top level... I've been moving my identified people into children under "people" keyword.... but again, not all the named people keywords can be moved from the child position and once I do have them all moved and close the de-expand the "people" keywords, they'll be less than 100 which is only going to keep me up a little below 1500. In the modern world, you wouldn't think that 1500 text keywords would be a problem!!

The box was the cause of my initial problem... every file was being exported with that key word so I unchecked it... now my main problem is getting all the keywords out of the child position of "Transportation"... and by the way, I never clicked a box that said "export" Transportation nor "Make keywords a child of 'Transportation'", but suddenly it was happening with every key word... and unfortunately it took me longer than suddenly to realize what was happening which is why I ended up with 1500 child keywords under Transportation that are making it very difficult to move them up to top level!... thanks...

I've become an expert at "finding the slot", so going slowly or carefully isn't the problem.... I've attached a copy of the key words screen shot. The slot opens up just above "Transportation" "Background" to "Salvage" will not open the slot no matter what I try and between "background" and "salvage" were about 700 keywords that did open the slot and are happily perched as a top level keyword. To give you and example.... "If I select "Salvage", "sand","sand waves" and "Sappho" together the slot won't open. If I select "salvage" by itself the slot won't open, but if I select "sand, "sand waves" and "Sappho" individually or together then the slot will open. As for why some keywords won't open the slot, I can't figure that out as there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the rejections. The only thing that seems evident is that if there is only 1 image linked to the key word then the slot opens... but from 2-300 linked images, it's anybody's guess. I have had some keywords with as many as 200 images linked to it open the slot but as you can see, some keywords that only have 2 images linked to it haven't been able to open the slot.... When a keyword doesn't open the slot, I try it a number of times and then slip in a few that go easily and the back to the "difficult puppy" and try it again and to no avail. They just go from one highlighting the two top level but won't open the slot!... I'm not sure if a "reinstall" will work, or if there is a "repair the program" option, but this certainly isn't how the program should work. I should be able to grab all the children and put them up into their new home in 5 seconds. It shouldn't be a 3 hour trial and error operation!! thanks... for your thoughts(and prayers!)

Can you try to move a keyword that has say 300 photos in it and see if the slot opens and also try to grab about 20 keywords with maybe 100+ photos and see if the slot opens?.... those larger ones(and some of the smaller ones) are giving me a lot of trouble...

Yes, that is how the "science" is supposed to work... but I've had to turn it into a low tech video game as there is no rhyme or reason as to when the slot will open. Some folders will not open it no matter how much it lingers. Some groups won't open the slot but then if I drop two or three folders then the slot will open. And then when I grab one of the folders that was in the last group that wouldn't open the slot, then the folder will open the slot... then I grab another from the group but it won't open the slot.... the slot seems to be very tempramental and seems to reject larger files or larger groups more than it does folders with 1-5 photos in it.... not a very efficient way to move keywords... I think it's going to be a 2-3 hour process!

I think that is the way it's supposed to work when it's working smoothly, but I've only managed to move a few files that way. It's very intermittent... sometimes the little slot between the two parents opens and sometimes it doesn't and will just allow me to drop the files into one of the two parents.... and even when the slot does open it's only when I'm moving a couple of files, If I take more than 5 or 10 then the slot never opens....

Yes, I"ve read that.. but when I move it up above the parent, no empty space appears between the Transportation parent and the next parent above it so when I let go, it just becomes a child to the parent above "Transportation", not a new parent...

Hello.. this is just what the question is asking... I have a large number of child keywords that have been inadvertently listed under a parent. I want to move them from being a child to be a top level but if I try to drag and drop them from out from below the parent, they can only go into another top level keyword and can't be a top level themselves... any ideas?... thaks...

I tried that but once I change the name of the top level hierarchy everything moves with it to the new name... I think what I need to do is move the children keywords out from under the top level "Transportation" key word,but I don't see how to do it. I think that on some versions of Lightroom you could just drag and drop them out, but in lightroom 6 when you drag them out, they just end up as a child in another top tier keyword... I can't find a way to drag and drop so they become a top tier themselves.. any ideas? thanks, David

Hello... every time I export my image with keywords in Lightroom 6 it adds the keyword "Transportation". I had used the keyword for a number of photos but now it adds that keyword to every single photo that I export along with the list of keywords that I have attached to the photo in the keyword box of the Library. In the Metadata spot in the export images window I've only checked "write keywords as Lightroom hierarchy". Is there a place in Lightroom that has "default passwords to export" or where "Transportation" is selected to export with every image? I'm not finding any place where I can select keywords to be universally exported with all images but "transportation" seems to have been tagged as one... any ideas?.One thing that I just noticed is that under the keyword List in the library, "Transportation" is listed as a keyword but almost every single key word is listed as a sub-keyword of "Transportation" and to the left of the word "Transportation" is a little box and when you put the cursor over it it says "click to add this keyword to select photos", but the is unchecked... any ideas? .. thanks...

Had some work down on the computer four months ago and we cleaned out the dust... the problem is so local... just the one tool in the one program which leads me to think it's something directly attributable to Lightroom.... All other tools are working fine in the program...

I turned off the choice to use graphics processor.. no change and then re-set the preferences and again no change... Here's more info... If I change the brush size with my mouse, sometimes the oval is from size 4-21 and somethings from 7-30... but when I scroll up to the point that it becomes a circle then scroll down, at size 15 it becomes a double cursor and at size 7 it becomes 4 horizonatlly parallel cursors. The 4 cursors remain in Lightroom but if I go to another it returns to a single cursor point and I can go back into Lightroom and I only have the 1 cursor point... the cursor point to the far right is the one that works, the three to the right of it just sort of follow it around but they don't do anything if I put on of them on the point that I want to click.

Hello, I'm having problems with my adjustment brush that is intermittent... It seems that when I enlarge the brush it starts off round from size 1-8, then if I enlarge it from size 9-28 it turns into an oval with only the top half visible, and then when I enlarge it from sized 29 up it returns to the round shape with the whole circle is once again visible... any ideas what causes that and how to fix it. it's an intermittent problem so sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. The other strange thing is when i use the scroll on my mouse to reduce the size of the brush the cursor turns into 2 brushes and then as I decrease more it turns into 4 brushes... when I move the cursor out of the photo to the controls, it still has 4 points on the cursor..... Any ideas why that is happening and how to get rid of the oval for intermediate brush sizes and get rid of the 4 cursor points without shutting down Lightroom and re-opening?
