Yes this could be the problem, only there is no feedback from FM indicating it. I filled out a bug report, hopefully it will bring some improvement here. However still looking for a solution.

In this FM book I dont use DITA but a structured application suited to the xml involved. Normally when I import or copy xml content into a FM document, FM asks which Structured Application to use and I select the appropiate SA. I dont know if the automatic update function remebers the SA for the xml the text inset. Part of the problem is that there is no error or problem identified; there are no xml validation errors. I correct myself in that Manually the files CAN be updated via the Insets Panel; however this means selecting each inset in each file, selecting the SA, and clicking udpate. The FM books I use have over a 100 documents, each with an inset, so the Automatic would be ideal.

Hi, I usually copy strutured xml content to FM and publish as pdf. To streamline work I am importing the same xml content as a text inset but the insets are not updating (automatically nor manually) any changes to the source xml file. Is there something I'm missing or this funtion really not working? Using FM 17.0.7

I'm working with Framemaker 2015, Windows 10 version 1703 From the updates mentioned I have KB4487038 - Installed KB4487017 not installed KB4023057 not installed >C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2017\Samples\UserGuide(Arabic,English,Hebrew)\English\Personal Spaceship User Guide - EN-US.book > Can you folks try to print this sample guide as well (print to ps file, then run through Distiller)? Does it work for you? Or does it fail? The 2015 version printed fine, no problems.

Thanks, I did write to that email address on Friday. Most of the diagrams (svg files) with problems were created with Adobe Illustrator (most or all of which were last modified in 2012), some were created with Microsoft Visio. I opened, edited the svg files in Visio and generated them again. It seems to work; however I'm sure there are other diagrams/svg files with multiple fonts. Why these run smoothly through the distiller, I don't know.

An interim solution The problem seems to be caused by images/diagrams in my documents so I identified the files in the book where the distiller was stopping and then regenerated the images/diagrams. I checked the fonts used in the diagrams and made them all one font. I don't know if this was the problem, otherwise the diagrams were no different than the rest. It is still not clear where the problem comes from, what causes it and how it will be fixed. Adobe? Wrote to Adobe Support with links to discussions in the forum and received no response.

I am seeing the same behavior though I am using FM 2015 (and Windows 10). At first I thought it may be caused by global changes I made to files in a book but FM is also having the same problem with files in books that have not been modified. In my case, changing from RGB to CMYK has not helped and, though the distiller quits on pages with figures/diagrams, there is no clear correlation to a specific type of imported or referenced file causing the problem (e.g., svg. pdf, jpg).

Thanks, I hope you are right. This is the direction I am going in - process of elimination. I wonder though if the problem may have something to do with the number of fonts and/or the instances of stylized text (i.e. italics). The latter is something I recently introduced to my content and I am not sure if there is a threshold beyond which it may cause a problem for the FM to pdf process.

Hi Winfried, Thanks for the tip. I did read the thread but posted anyway because I'm using FM 2015. Unfortunately FM 2015 doesn't support PDF settings in the Publish pod. > Is this also when you just create a new file (with the default FrameMaker template) and add this to a new book file? Without any content or with some text or with several graphics of different formats? It happens when I add content with text and graphics. However it is not new content; it seems like FM or Distiller is all of a sudden not able to handle large files. My Windows 10 version is 1703 OS Build 15063.1563 If the problems are related and one fix fits all that would be great Miguel

Since yesterday I cannot generate pdf using "Save as PDF.." Iv'e tried different .fm an .book files. Individual .fm files work fine but saving book files as pdf FM crashes. While Distiller does run, it aborts after a few hundred pages and the only output is a large tps file. I tried troubleshooting the tps file according to Troubleshoot PostScript errors but the PostScript error is "%%[Error: ; OffendingCommand: ]%% , i.e. nothing to go on. Does anyone know why this can be happening? or how to use the find the problem in the tps file? Thanks!

Error: Attribute 'Hidden' is not declared for element 'BitFieldsPostTableDescription' I keep getting this error even after declaring the attribute in the EDD and generating a new dtd file. I also updated my Template.fm file with the new element definitions. Any ideas what is causing the error? Is something missing? Hi Jeff, I did both, installed the latest update and renamed the file. This only worked the first time after restarting FM. Unfortunately FM still crashes as before, even if I rename the file.
