I don't see any issue with printing from a proof copy. In fact Step 3 in the referred document says ... "To edit your photo to bring it within a desired color space, click Create Proof Copy. Lightroom Classic creates a virtual copy that you can adjust to print as you desire. Then, make your adjustments." I certainly don't want to go making changes to the original that I use for other purposes such as web or social media that I then have to go back and undo. I want a "print" copy that I can reprint whenever needed. This seems to be the purpose of a proof copy. I have tried adding the original to a print job and you are correct in that it does not get added to the other jobs. However I often need to adjust sharpness, mid-tone contrast or tone to suit printing and I don't want to do that to the original. This definitely appears to be. Originally I said that resetting the Preferences worked. To some extent it did but using Robert's routine above I replicated the error as well. Instead of being locked as the padlock indicated the crop was actually free which is revealed on a mouse over. Be aware if you are resetting Preferences that if you have anything in non-standard locations (like I did) LR won’t find them and you will either need to move them or return the pointers to the old location. Nothing is ever straightforward. ... View more

I am having this exact issue with LR Classic 10.0 on a 2019 27" iMac. When I open the crop tool the lock icon is open but the crop behaves like it is locked. When I mouse over the lock it closes. If I then unlock it it opens and I can then do a custom - free form crop. This behave repeats for every image I edit. In the past if you left the crop icon unlocked it would stay unlocked, but note that it looks like its unlocked but is not, at least until I make it show its true state then unlock it. Thanks Todd. I have seen the issue with 'Simulate Paper and Ink" not working with the out of gamut warning enabled and have played with turning the graphics processor off. I found it made no difference. The simulation works with the out of gamut warning turned off so its simply a matter of toggling that on and off. I don't place any credence on 'Simulate Paper & Ink' anyway as I find it to be not useful. My prints are always better than this preview would suggest. I have found a Canon profile for my Ilford paper (Gold Fibre Silk) but got very similar results. It would appear that I have out of gamut colours that my monitor cannot display but these are not showing up in the Monitor out of gamut warning. As I said before the printer out of gamut area is not an issue - that gets corrected nicely - the issue is that the reds and oranges (skin tones) get totally over done. I have yet to find a good way to fix this without ruining the whole shot (it's a family portrait at sunset) and soft proofing is not helping. ... View more

Jao, you may have a point about being “out of gamut” however it is too easy to blame my monitor or the profile. The profile is one by Ilford made for the Canon Pro 10 so I think I can trust that. I will check for a Canon profile for my paper though. As I said before I am confident that my monitor is very close to being true based on a number of test patterns and prints that I have made. As far as gamut warnings go the warning shows a bright cerise dress that is out of gamut. However that is brought back in by the software and prints okay. I would not expect other areas not flagged to become over saturated. In the case of the OP his image caused the same issues on some-one else’s system. I struggled with a magenta cast on some other paper and eventually discovered I was using AirPrint to drive my printers. That definitely screwed the colours and gave a strong magenta cast to every print. I have since re-instgalled my printer drivers using the supplied Canon ones and that problem went away. I am having a similar experience with my Canon Pro-10S printing from LR CC. I am using the correct paper profiles and while my 27" iMac is not calibrated I am confident that it is not far out. Most of my prints come out pretty good to excellent. However I have one family portrait taken at sunset with lots of warm oranges and reds. On the screen I have pushed these a bit by raising the colour temp to 7500 however when I print it it comes out quite dark with very intense reds. To get a decent print I have reduced the temp to 6000 and desaturated the oranges by -6in the HSL panel. The on screen image looks quite washed out with soft proofing turned on but there is a clue in the histogram which shows a strong shift to the right in the reds as you can see from these screen shots. The first is with soft proofing turned on after I have made the changes above. The shift is much more pronounced in the original version. The histogram is telling me what to expect and that is what I get - very saturated reds. However the screen image gives no indication at all. Found the trick. I have been 'Moving' all new scans to a particular folder -say "1980s" the odd one will not belong in that folder so I will then drag it to another folder. I did this just now from the 'Previous Import" smart folder and the next image I scanned did not load, instead the previous image re-loaded. I tried moving from the stored folder "1980s" with the same result. The odd thing is that the Auto Import folder is empty so where is it getting the image from to re-load. As I said earlier if I try to 'remove' the extra images it takes out all instances and I have to re-import them from the folders they were sent to. Hopefully you can replicate this. I can avoid the issue by not moving any scanned images but that is a pain in the butt. Back to manually importing. 😞 ... View more

Sean, yep. I have a dedicated folder that is kept empty called "auto imported photos". Oe thing that I was doing around the time this behaviour started was changing the file name of some of the images within LR. I use the file name as a date reference. Sometime I forget to change it in my scanning software. I don't see how this would cause Auto import to load a different file though. I am running LR Classic 7.3.1 and have been scanning photo prints for some time now. I move the images from the watched folder to a new folder. Lately Auto import has started importing duplicates of previously imported images and not importing those that are in the watched folder. These are the exact same images and if I 'remove' them from the library of course all copies disappear. A manual import will bring in all the images. I have had to stop using Auto Import and import in batches. This is actually not much of an inconvenience but it is annoying to not be able to use a useful feature. ... View more

Victoria, Either of those options is a clutz. It may be a limitation imposed by Apple, I don’t know. In any case my work around is better than either option of Dropbox or Photo’s. Exporting one at a time from WD My Passport May be painful but is bettter than loading hundreds of images into Photo’s or uploading to Dropbox. More often than not if I’m on the road I don’t have the bandwidth to upload to Dropbox any way. Also I don’t want to store all my images on my iPad, It would fill up very quickly. I am very disheartened by you comment as I thought it might have been my late 2012 iMac. The poor old thing only has 24Gb Ram and a  3.4Gb i7 processor 🙂 I am re-organising my modest collection (25k+ images) from folder based to collection based. Swapping from folder to collection takes several seconds and scrolling is so slow I am tearing my hair out. Updating the thumbnails of even a few dozen images to show the collections they are in is hilarious as instead of appearing instantly as it used to you now watch them pop up one by one! I don't know why this issue is flagged as "Answered" as for most it is not. For some turning off/on the GPU helps but for a lot it does not. Myself included. Six months on and no sign of what I would regard as basic functionality. I have a WD My Passport Pro Wireless Hard Drive that I use whenever I am on the road. At present I have to use the WD software to manually open each file individually in LR CC on my iPad Pro. The WD software is limited in that the drive is essentially a storage and server device and it cannot preview raw images. I don’t want to have to store my images twice on my iPad by loading them all into my Camera Roll. It would seem to be a simple thing to be able to import directly from the drive, or as in the previous posters case from the SD card. Is LR CC a serious tool for the Pro-Am photographer or just a toy for the masses? Joe, your answer doesn't make much sense to me. I don't see what physics has to do with it. I do understand what causes chromatic aberration. As a matter of course I always remove chromatic aberration and enable profile corrections. I don't believe either has any effect on edge detection. In this case there is none, just a clean edge which auto-mask won't go within a pixel of. That doesn't sound like desirable behaviour to me. Avoiding major brush adjustments where there is a hard edge is certainly an option but not something I would be looking for in a premium photo processing package. Ideally I want to be able to open the images on Mypassport Wireless in LR Mobile and edit them directly off the Mypassport. That is treat the MyPassport like an external drive. What I have found is that you can use the upload function in the MyCloud app to open the image in LR Mobile. This will load the file onto your iPad/iPhone and open it in LR Mobile. Not quite what I want to do but its a start. Storage is limited on my iPad/iPhone and will quickly fill up. To load an image in LR Mobile select it in the MyCloud app then tap the upload icon (top right) then pick 'Open in'. One of the options should be 'Import with Lightroom'. If you have other apps they will appear as well including all the Social media sites. I wouldn't try sending a Raw file to Twitter though 🙂 ... View more
