There is a variable within captivate called "cpQuizInfoStudentName" that's defined as "Student Name from LMS". You can do things such as display a caption with this variable to personalize the course. @Lilybiri - Oh, I assumed that as long as "maintain aspect ratio" was selected for the image (which I think is the default for this specific placeholder on this master slide), it wouldn't distort. That's been my experience so far.

Following on from Lilybiri's comment: you seem to be resizing the image to fit, but my (limited) experience with fluid boxes indicates this isn't necessary. Instead of unlocking the image from the fluid box, resizing, and locking it again, what happens if you select "stretch to fit" under both the horizontal and vertical properties for the fluid box that contains it?

Unfortunately the hotfix for CC issues, at least the one I recently received, doesn't address this particular problem. The hotfix lets you control the CC with a custom button, but the CC box still winks in and out of existence depending on whether a particular part has captions. (And the CC variable also still automatically switches back and forth between 0 and 1 as you go from slides with no captions to slides with captions.) I agree with Captivate needing a release update; I was very confused when I started the 2017 trial and found that there were CC issues that had been addressed in a hotfix nearly a year ago but hadn't been fixed in an update. (Isn't the point of a subscription that things can be patched fairly regularly...?)

Ah, I was confused by "press a screen button" and went off on a tangent! It sounds like your intended method should work -- I've tried setting maximum length to 2 with auto submit enabled and the slide continues once I type in 17 -- so I'm not sure what's going on with your TEB. Hopefully someone else will have an idea! (Maybe sharing a few pics of your TEB settings and the timeline might help others troubleshoot?)

For issue 1, do you mean that you want the user to input a value and then click a button on screen to validate it? To do this I'd "show button" (under the TEB Properties > Action) and delete the shortcut. You can make the submit button transparent if it needs to go on top of a button in a screenshot from the software. (I'm unsure if that's what you mean because you mention auto submit, which would not involve pressing/clicking a button.) EDIT: For issue 2, do you need the TEB to be included in scoring? If not, a not-great workaround that executes an advanced action on focus lost might do in a pinch. I'm not sure if others have come up with better workarounds since I last used Captivate (it's been quite a few years!).

You may have already found them, but in 2017 (not sure about earlier versions) there are example projects you can access from within Captivate. Click on assets, then chose projects. I've been messing around with the Cloudair_SoftSkills sample as I refamiliarize myself with Captivate, and it showcases things like fluid boxes, using character images with multi-states that change depending on the user's input, and geolocation that localizes some of the graphics. It's pretty cool.

From one of Beowulf12's image it looks like learners do get further attempts, but only after exiting the course and restarting it. I'm rusty on LMS stuff, so I don't really remember why one might do that instead of just using the retake feature. To record how many times a learner failed before passing?

Looks like I got the hotfix as a reply to my bug report, so that's helpful~ My toggle button now works like the one in the playbar. For anyone else reading: if this is a problem for you, try reporting it here like I did. ___ I have discovered there's still an odd thing that happens. It seems that if you click a CC button (either playbar or custom) to enable CC, then click the button to disable them when there is a break in the captions, the CC is not disabled-- you have to click the button when there are currently captions visible in order to toggle them. Maybe that's intentional?

Yes, that would be very helpful! I can see on the master slide that you can edit the spacing of the lines within a single answer (so that if the answer is more than one line there is greater space between them). That spacing gets applied to question slide, but you still have to resize the answers and move them around to show the full, multi-line answer. I wish it was smart enough to know that if you have a long answer, you don't want it to get cut off

Hi, Kim. Are you trying to change the line spacing of the answers on a knowledge check slide? By selecting individual answers (either alone, or together by holding down CTRL), I could change the spacing in the same place as I can for regular captions (under Properties > Style > Character). The only knowledge check question type I couldn't find the setting for is "short answer." If you select the box with the faint blue outline around the answers, you will only get the properties for the "answer area," not the text properties for the answers. Perhaps this is your issue? I started experimenting with accessibility today, and discovered this issue: Closed Captions disappear after each break in audio Toggle Closed Captioning I've tried Lilybiri's workaround from the first link, but I haven't got it working yet. (Maybe I need to start a new project and try again.) I know this has been discussed before, and I've already submitted a bug report for it, but it's been 9 months since the first link was posted. Is there any indication Adobe is working on including this in an update? (Especially since there seems to be a hotfix that can't be shared.) Thanks!

Yes, it's a shame Captivate doesn't have the option to "stop" a currently executing advanced action somehow, such as with another advanced action. I wonder if that would be a reasonable feature to ask for? (I'm not familiar with how advanced actions work behind the scenes, so it's hard to know what would be easy to add.) I'm very tempted to explore these various options for "closed captions for audio played by a button" to re-familiarize myself with Captivate...

Oh, sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that I didn't think specifically showing/hiding the captions with "delay" to perfectly mimic closed captions was possible in 8. (If the audio clips are long, ideally one wouldn't show all the text all at once, but could split it up and sync it up to the audio with "delay.") I guess I should've stuck to simply explaining show/hide. Lauren- I know you mentioned not wanting to make a new screen for each button because of time constraints, but to be honest it also sounds like the easiest way in 8, since it would let you have an individual slide for each button and use the closed caption feature for the audio. Plus, it would be easier to "disable" the other buttons (just have them do nothing on those screens), so that would fix your other issue of wanting to prohibit users from interacting while the audio is playing.

If you were in 9 or above, it would be a bit easier to replicate CC, unfortunately. (I'm imagining an advanced action that not only plays the audio when the button is clicked, but also shows/hides captions that look like the CC using the "delay" option that was new in 9). I don't think there's a way to make "notes" accessible to the user automatically, unfortunately. The simplest method I can think of is using an advanced action to play the audio and show a caption (or a scrolling text interaction, if there's a lot of text) when you click the button. You might be able to get a bit fancier and set the extra caption to show only if the user has activated CC by making the advanced action conditional (if cpCmndCC = 1, show Caption).

Oh dear... Well hopefully someone else will have a better idea. I suppose it could just be that Cap 7 files are larger in general... but I have several that I'm working on right now that are 1.3 MB to 4 MB, so it is possible to have smaller files (depending on what you have in your project-- I have no audio).

I'm not sure why there's such a big increase in size, but in my experience updating projects from earlier versions of Captivate can be... weird. My first inclination would be to try copying the slides from the updated Cap 7 file into a new Cap 7 file. That way you may manage to leave behind anything left over from earlier versions.

We are not able to use keyboard to navigate to the TOC button in the published output.
Do you mean the little button that show/hides the TOC at the top left? My first suggestion would be to make a button that show/hides the TOC using an Advanced Action. (Normally I'd suggest a smart shape button set to display rest of project, but I am not sure anymore which button types are accessible-- it has been a long time since I sat down and tried to figure out Captivate's accessibility quirks.)

Thank you! I found the right bit of code at the top of SCORM_utilities.js. It seems to be working perfectly now in SCORMCloud; I've clicked and clicked and it won't disappear, and all my randomization is working still. Thanks so much, again. I was envisioning having to scrap the whole idea, and yet that was so simple to change. (It would be even simpler if we had admin rights and I could edit the file Captivate uses to publish, but... I'll stop complaining about corporate policies )

Hi folks, I've encountered a problem with web objects disappearing in SWF output in Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 7 machine). It doesn't happen in Chrome, but unfortunately that doesn't help me since I'm stuck with a corporate environment that only uses IE. The issue is if I click inside the web object (pdf, web page, whatever) and then click outside it, the whole interaction disappears. I've been using Jim's JavaScript code for a dynamic web object, but the same thing happens if I make a new project and simply put an web address into the widget. It happens in preview, in a web browser, on SCORMCloud, our LMS, and in Jim's example SWF in his dynamic web object tutorial. I've tried workarounds, such as putting a transparent image/smart shape on top, but of course the web object/iframe is always on top. (Which I knew, but still hoped...) I'm not sure if anyone can help, but it would be nice to know if it happens for other people in the same web browser. I suppose I will contact Adobe directly soon, because it would be really disappointing to have to give up on my project idea-- a randomized quiz with customized questions that pulls html files with the proper image, meant to duplicate an old test (made in Authorware, I think). It might be reproducible with Advanced Actions, but not very simply, and not in a way that could easily be reused for multiple tests with different pictures or number of questions. Plus I had another project in the works that could involve using the widget to embed a PDF, and that won't work either. Thanks for reading, ElaKat

I seem to remember Captivate used to delete silence added at the beginning of a file. (I guess it still does?) I think the workaround was to insert not-quite-silence. So if you had a clip of narration, you'd copy/paste a bit where the person wasn't talking but there was imperceptible background noise. Is there a bit of the file you can use in a similar way? (Or do you have some other audio editing software?)

This seems like it would be tricky to do out of the box... (Although I could be wrong! Maybe the experts will know of a way ) I know Lieve's latest post talks about custom hotspot questions, but those have multiple hot spots with partial scoring, not a single hotspot with partial scoring based on number of tries: Custom Hotspot questions in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog There is the Interactive Master Widget, but I've never used it so I can't say for certain that it would do what you need it to. The problem as far as I see it (which perhaps you're aware of) is that any scored object will add to the total number of points and mess up your percentage. So you could have two smart shape buttons with one attempt each, one worth 10 and the other worth 5. The first is visible, but on failure hides itself and shows the second. But with that method you'd have 15 points total, not 10. In the past I saw something where someone sent their own score to the LMS using JavaScript and then closed the project before Captivate could overwrite that score, but I don't know if that's doable these days. I'm assuming you're publishing as a SCORM project (or maybe Tin Can). If you looking at the quiz settings, under "Reporting," you'll see a button called "Configure" near the top, next to your chosen standard (like SCORM 1.2). Click it, and you'll see where that annoying "Captivate E-Learning Course" title is coming from. Edit it to whatever you want, save the project with the new settings, and you should be good to go every time you publish in the future.

Hi folks, A long, long time ago, way back in Captivate 5.5, I managed to "save" some data in a SCORM 1.2 course as part of a convoluted randomization thingy (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1176710). I wrote the data to cmi.comments using this little snippet:
g_objAPI.LMSSetValue('cmi.comments', 'whateverDataHere');
I'd like to do something similar again in Captivate 8 (not the whole convoluted randomization thingy-- I just want to save some data to comments so it'll be easily readable by someone who looks at the SCORM data). I'm assuming that things have changed since then. I've tried googling, but the closest I can find is the general JavaScript tutorial for Captivate 8, and that seems to be about interacting with Captivate, not SCORM. Any hints/suggestions? I feel like this should be relatively simple, but without the proper "wording," I'm stuck. (It's also been a while since I dabbled in JavaScript, so that might be hindering me, too ) Thanks!
