I have to produce a guidance document as a pdf. It should be a traditional laid out report, which itself is guidance. And instructions which reveal (like with button) so they don't obscure the document in a pdf. As the full page needs to be seen, I thought about the instructions appearing inside a button, appearing on rollover. But that instruction text that reveals would also need to print out. Like we used to do with comments; you could choose to print the doc comments. There will be a lot of instruction text in the revealed element, so not just a line or two; whole paragraphs - up to a whole page of text. Does anyone have any ideas as to how best to do this based in indesign? Is html an alternative? But the layout is important. Time is also short (as usual) Any ideas welcome!

I've been studying Grep to try to format my footnotes in Indesign for a report that has 190! The footnotes fall at different points in the sentences, so not always after a full stop. Anyway, using a full stop includes other things I don't want to format. I've tried setting up a positive lookbehind using a carat as an pattern point and this is ok - I can find the footnotes. But I can't make the carat disappear when its styled. I think I need a subexpression? I've used <(?<=\^)\d+> to find eg ^25 in the Find field and have a superscript character style set up. So the footnotes format but the ^ symbol is still there. Can I not get that to disappear? I've found a course on Linkedin Learning but I just can't quite grasp what I need to do - I wondered if there were any Grep genius's out there who would help! Many thanks! Diane

I posted in this forum when I was having these problems. I thought I 'd share whats changed now that I don't have the issues any more. I run Indesign 15.1.2 which was up to date at the time. I updated Wacom tablet, and Extensis Suitcase font software. But updating these and renewing plugins didn't change anything. My Macbook pro 16" was already up to date 10.15.6 Catalina. I do have an old Apple display monitor 24" and a wired keyboard plugged into the monitor. At the time of losing the key function I noticed a moisture or steam patch on the screen. The shortcut keys all worked fine on my laptop, but not on the wired keyboard. The keys worked fine at my work, workstation that has a newer Apple thunderbolt display with a wireless keyboard. So I've replaced the keyboar at home to a new wireless one and the keys seem fine. If I plug in the charging cable to the usb sockets on the back though, the keys don't work. I figured something happened to the usb socket... With Apple, its good to notice old kit in your set up. I have the old monitors as I haven't been able to find anything better!

I'm the same; suddenly my modifier keys aren't working - the command key and letters z and x. I use an extra monitor and keyboard. All keys and modifiers are fine on the actual laptop, but not on the separate keyboard. Also Ai crashes everytime the computer goes to sleep. I have to close any open files each time I go away from the laptop! I am running a macbook pro 16" laptop, Catalina 10.15.6 My illustrator/photoshop/indesign are up to date. I've updated Suitcase Extensis (and updated those plugins for AI, Ps and ID) and Wacom. I've removed the Acrobat extension from Chrome, that seemed to through everything out. I removed it straight after I added it. I've removed A security app from Chrome that it flagged up. I've renamed the preferences files for illustrator and restarted.

Thanks Szalam, I'm not sure where I found the solution! I went into the menu: Animation > apply animation preset > then chose the preset. You can't preview it there but have to look in Bridge separately to do that. I think it comes down to language in the end - I wasn't sure what you meant by the 'animation presets section' Thank you for your help.
