I was going to once again send in all the details requested above and fired off Bridge (latest) last night, after upgrading to latest Camera Raw, opened a folder that has been opened many times, so preview generation should no longer be an issue. Granted it has around 150 RAW files in it, but Bridge was unresponsive for something like 5 minutes, the window title bar flashing "Not Responding" on and off, the program lagging so far behind that while it registered my first click on a thumbnail it never managed to display metadata and preview and clicking on a different thumbnail did nothing; the first row of thumbnails was seemingly being re-drawn over and over again as the thumbnails were slightly changing size. I eventually force-quit and gave up. Win 10-64 latest, 32 GB RAM, 1080Ti  and 9900K. The computer handles Photoshop, Lightroom, and Resolve without issues, it sure can handle a normally functioning Bridge. ... View more

Quick update, after having tried so many different things, settings and shots in the dark, I seem to have better performance. Not blazing fast by any means, but workable. Of course now I can't pinpoint the fix if there was one. It involved multiple Bridge resets, cache resets, flipping the "Generate 100% previews" switch on and off multiple times, playing with performance settings, installing version 8.x, ditching it as it is ugly, creating exceptions for the cache in Bitdefender, and whatever else. In the end, every time I start Bridge now, I am worried it will freeze again and user experience is ruined. Not happy but hey, it's a subscription and I need Lightroom, so I'm hooked. ... View more

I am having the same problem, latest version (and possibly the few before this in v 9.x) is sluggish to the point of being unusable . I'm on v9.1.0.338 now. Win 10 latest, 32 GB RAM, 9900K and 1080 Ti, so my computer should handle Bridge well. Everything else, Photoshop and Lightroom for instance, working well. Bridge becomes un-responsive, down to a halt, when interacting with any view. Switching images, going full screen, changing folders, it all ends up taking minutes. My file sizes are in the 20 to 30 MB range, some CR2, some ARW and some TIFF, from a 5D MK II and a RX 100VA. If I simply click once on a thumbnail, I might get a preview top right but no metadata, and the Bridge window keeps flashing "Not Responding" for minutes before anything happens. Well, I have officially given up on CS6 compatibility. After much trial and error, I found settings that will let me run the script on CS2. The key seems to be preparing the files (as initially explained when I got the script). They have to be DNG, with all settings neutral and Custom white balance, this being done in CS2's ACR, whichever version came with it... I did find a way around the interpolation error after some Googling. The bug was reported by others and after changing my PS settings to Bilinear by default, the error no longer happens. So then I go straight to ther crash. I had not thought of the ACR changes as a cause, it's a good point. However I am pretty sure that the script already failed to work in CS5 long before the process was updated to 2012. Don't lose sleep over it Michael, but I truly appreciate your help with this! ... I've now tried to run the script line by line and I'm afraid debugging this is beyond my ability. I get a combination of "internal error" and "undefined" and I don't even know how to get passed the first one. Stepping over trouble lines often does crash PS, but I guess that would be expected... ... View more

Yes, deleting lines is not a magic bullet, that's why I was smiling about it... I'm a bit puzzled now; got back home yesterday and tried for 15 minutes to replicate my previous issue. Now the script just fails to run after the first user input, but I can't get it to crash PS again. Beginning to wonder if I previously had a fever. I did not have time to do a line by line execution. Yeah, it actually crashes it. First I get a window where I select the files to be processed, that works fine, and then when I hit Go and the script starts the heavy lifting, Photoshop just plain and simple crashes. I did try to run the script line by line before, but not being familiar with the toolkit, I was very methodical in my approach and gave up when I thought I had found two different places where sopmething went wrong (by removing the first glitchy line ;-). Hi Michael, Thank you very much for your reply! The script does not actually use Photoshop's native HDR feature, but rather blends bracketed RAW images into a single RAW file with an extended tonal range, so I think I'm clear of that possibility. There is no error message, it actually crashes the program. I will try and verify the version check if any, just in case, but I fear it is more serious. Otherwise, knowing that there aren't that many changes and scripts are normally forward-compatible is encouraging. I'll look for a bug or a dropped feature, and hopefully get help from the toolkit. ... View more
