Hi all, Hope somebody could point me in the right direction... I have a droplet app written in AppleScript. It looks for the page size of the documents dropped and uses that info. Just for testing I have a dialog at the end which returns this. The problem; The app only returns the document size, as in the size displayed in the 'Document setup' window. I need to use the actual page size, as a large number of my clients use the page tool to adjust the page sizes. I need it to always use the actual page size. Has anyone run into a similar problem? Hi all, I'm still learning Applescript and am stuck on something I imagine is relatively simple! I have a script that cycles through all the graphic frames in my document and records their widths and heights to a list. --outside of the loop set fWList to {} set fHList to {} --inside the loop set frameWidths to (d - b) set end of fWList to frameWidths set frameHeights to (c - a) set end of fHList to frameHeights --at the end of the script, verify values {fWList, fHList} Its this last bit I'm stuck on, I don't know how to work with the list given. These will always be numbers and I need to sum all the numbers recorded if fWList is 500, 500, 500 I need 1500 saved to a variable called totalWidths if fHList is 300, 500, 500 I need 1300 saved to a variable called totalHeights I've tried everything and just get errors at the last moment, the errors do show '500,500,500' etc so I know the info is being collected properly, I just can't get it back out! Hi all, I’m just starting out with AppleScript, I wonder if I could trouble somebody for some advice? The repeat loop below looks through any graphic frames on my InDesign page, gets the bounds of each frame and then changes the size of them by a set amount given by the user. (theChosenBleed) All good so far apart from the ‘set FrameHeights’ and ‘set FrameWidths’ variables, this is saving the width/height of the first frame it finds in the loop, rather than making a list of the dimensions of every one it finds. If there are three frames on the page, sized at 300x400mm each for example, I am getting this FrameWidths = 300 FrameHeights = 400 What I actually need is below; FrameWidths = 300, 300, 300 FrameHeights = 400, 400, 400 Does anybody know what I’m doing wrong? Hi all, My current script produces empty graphic frames on my page, variable quantities and variable sizes. Does anyone know of a script that would find all objects on this layer (called 'AW') and reduce the height of each one by 10mm from centre, and reduce the width of each one by 10mm from centre? Hi all, I was helped with a script on this forum and hoped somebody could help me with adapting it slightly. This counts how many objects in the document sit on a layer called 'cutter' and also have a stroke applied in a colour called 'cutter' The script alert displays the total count of objects meeting both these conditions. However this counts only 'path items' - is there a way I could rewrite it to count both path items and group items? Often I type text, outline it and apply a stroke called 'cutter', but as this is a group object the script isn't counting it. Hi everyone, First of all thank you for all your support with my script so far, the information offered has been invaluable. I’m at the final hurdle but have hit quite a large problem. Put simply my script is done, I want to put it in Illustrator Startup Scripts and do nothing. That is, until the user tries to save the document - then I need the script to run and do its thing before the save box opens. InDesign has a ‘beforeExport’ event listener which achieves this. Does anyone know an equivalent in Illustrator, or even a solution involving a plugin or workaround? Thank you ... View more

Is it possible to write a script which preflights the following conditions? I have a document with a placed image in the center. I want to create a metadata caption beneath it displaying the Author of the image. I have my text box set up touching the placed image with “Replace this text” temporarily. I choose Type > Text Variables > Define > New I enter the Name: Author, choose Type as Metadata Caption, and choose Author from the Metadata dropdown menu and hit OK so Author appears in my list of text Variables. I then highlight “Replace this text” and Insert the Author text Variable to replace it, so that the caption shows the Author of whatever image I import into that graphic frame. Anyway…..my question is - can I script this so that Javascript automatically searches the document for any instances of “Replace this text” and replaces it with a Author metadata caption? Hi all, I regularly have to create A3 documents and place PDF's in a grid within it -  eight thumbnails per page, as many pages as required depending on the amount of pdfs I have. In the links panel, I can see the full path to each placed PDF by hovering over the link name (or using the flyout menu>copy info>copy full path). We work on a server. I manually then select the first thumbnail, copy the full link path to the PDF it contains and the create a hyperlink for that frame, pasting in the link path for the URL. I repeat this for all thumbnails in the document. In short, when I export my final finished 'catalog' document as a PDF I am able to click on any thumbnail - and the PDF I clicked on opens up full size over the server into the computers default web browser. Is there any way to automate this process with scripting? I'm hoping to set my A3 document with thumbnails in place - then run a script to copy the link path for each placed asset into its respective graphic frame hyperlink URL. A real head scratcher! Hi all, Can anyone help with my script? I've taken InDesigns built-in 'Image Catalog' script and made a few amends to suit my companies way of working. However on line 80 onwards I've added a few extra fields + a dropdown to the dialog box. Can anyone tell why it shows a 'undefined' error when running the script, even when I've clearly entered text into the boxes and chosen a dropdown option?
