As others point point out Bridge is much like Finder, but more powerfu. It previews almost every file type. it's nearly indispencible.  A powerful tool when you have campaigns that include Web, print, POP, and internal document.     Where it falls apart a little, (as Finder does) is the METADATA. This could be the Fault of Illustrator/Acrobat / EPS's or the OS, by now though, there should be solustions for this.    This needs an overhaul.   1. It should be editable. Add / Remove / Move up/down.  2. Have more than one type of Dimension. - or all Dimensions  3. PDFs don't have F-Stops so why is that there?   This whole section could be amazing. if only it was editable. until then. DIMENSIONS are only meant for Digital/Screens. Humans like dividing by 72! Hence why file names have 34.5x72 in the name.  At least its ok to put a . in a file name now.    ... View more

For some reason I thought one of the latest updates did turn hyphonate off by default. but I could be wrong. I've learned to live with it. It's one of those things us designers get to complain about every time we use a paragraph box.  As for default measurements, as a Canadian in my 40's I'm used to both Metric and Imperial measurements. Paper here is generally in inches because of our proximity to the USA, so that's my go to. But I understand the rest of the world uses metric.  What part of the world uses points? I'm currious to know who'd fight me/us on this.   Perhaps that's the "simple" solution. when installing it should ask you right there, what Country are you in. Then show us the defaults to that country but like a Smart watch you can Edit those defaults. while that Might be true, it misses the point. We're not simply asking HOW to make Illustrator better for ourselves we're asking that they FIX it for everyone for now and always on items that Don't and Never made sense.    Illustrator isn't InDesign or a word processor, as such, Hyphonate should have been defaulted off since the beginning. My guess is, it was default on 30 years ago to be like "look what we can do". As for points, until grade schools default to teaching kids Points instead of cm/in, no one will use it. There is no need to be stubborn about it, just drop it. I gaurantee, anyone that uses points will understand. Like Latin, it's a dead language. No one will fight you to make it the default. High Res Rendering of Gen Fil.  I have an image that is like hair. wavy and flowing. when using Gen fil to expand the images width, it does an amazing job of creating the flow and movement, however the resolution is not the same.  Is this becasue it is beta? ... View more

They made a HUGE improvement, (nov 22). It's still jumpy, but it's tollerable. Tollerable is something people can live with. Apparently the first instance of smooth scrolling on a computer was in 1990. @lmmura615  thanks to @Ton Frederiks there is a work around.   It seems that the changes suggested here to the Print.ai and other preset files do work... BUT we need to use the Legacy New File interface.   In Preferences / General / Use legacy "New File" interface   Now with the old interface Profile: settings work   Thank you @Monika Gause as well for your assistance. I now have Print.ai files that are in Inches and have Hyphenation defaulted to off!   WOO HOO! Now let hope when I update Illustrator I don't lose these, cuase I'll forget how ! HAHA   ... View more

Thanks Ton, I did all your steps, I also tried replacing the Print.ai file that's here /Applications/Adobe Illustrator 2023/Support Files/New Document Profiles/en_US   Same thing happening here as with trying to change the Default from Points to Inches. New Documents open as default. (points and hyphenation ON)   If open the Print.ai file from both those folders, They open as they should... they just don't effect the New Document Interface.  ... I use cloud storage as well. Bridge is SLOW when it comes to previewing web images, so I instead have a local drive so that previews are fast. Clour storage is used as a back up / way to share. But not to browse or work from.  ... View more

Magic Mouse is the Apples mouse. It comes with thier computers. (not laptops).  It's a good mouse, especially when you add the Better Touch Tool App. Though a little to small for most people. The latest version though has possibly the dumbest design flaw apple has ever made... save for the Apple puck which was again a mouse for the original iMacs. this Wireless mouse needs to be plugged in from the bottom. Sorry monika, I think you may still missunderstand the request.  This Dialog box. The Print Tab (not a file) defaults to Points. It should default to inch (or CM if so inclind). No one in history has requested a poster, postcard, letterhead in ###points wide by ####points tall. that's not a thing. Likewise, designers don't suggest back to the client, how many points they'd like their product to be.    Points are used for Fonts. Not length x width.   Sure, you could say it's a little petty of me to complain that I need to change this setting every time I make a new document... but so does everyone else, and if we don't / forget we end up changing the settings within the document.   This dialog box to me is part of the application, not default files. Ahh, yea, so this is/was? a different issue. Scrolling with the Magic mouse was an arbitrary increment in both the window preview and the folder side bar.  It didn't snap to next which would have at least been ok for ppl like your self. instead it would jump about 13x the distance you would expect from smooth scrolling. I recall people talking about that feature and being frustrated that it was a couple pixels short of the next photo, so when you scroll it looks like your scrolling up. that would be just about as annoying to me. 😛 Anyhow, I can see that being perhaps a useful tool for comparing one image to the next, but I generally do that one image at a time in the large preview window to a/b the images rather than the thumbnails.   ... Yes, I know how to do that, especially with documents that have Web and Print material.  That is the fastest way to change an open / currently in use document. That's not what we are talking about.  My feature request/suggestion isn't about how to change a document, it's how to change illustrator.    Look at it this way. If the default setting wasn't Points but instead was another unit. Yards or Meters or lightyears, something abstract, would you not agree, that perhaps the default setting of Miles/Yards/meters is something  everyone has to change EVERY time they create a new document. wouldn't it be better if the default was pixel or inch or cm, or better still you can pick your default?   That's all im asking. I mean honestly Pionts to measure Letter size is 612x792 better still A4 is 595.28x841.89 <---- WHAT?   Maybe there are infact more people who want the default to be points, but I don't know any. do you? No I did not... although that is usually how I change the units most of the time from inches to pixels or back if I am working on something that is Print and Web related.    So in this case, for the first Print.ai file I duplicated the Print.ai file and then opened the Print.ai file opened the Document setup... / changed the Units to inches / Saved as Print.ai.  for the second one It was a little differnt as the Print.ai file was protected. But more or less followed the same steps Saved the Print.ai file to the desktop and moved it to the folder to Rewrite the file.   Quit Illustrator both times, a couple times, selected New Document / Print Tab but the units are still Point. Hi Monika, I tried what I think you were suggesting.  Users/ -> /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 27/en_US/New Document Profiles/Print.ai I opened this file. Changed it to Inch, and saved it. moved the old Print.ai file to another folder. and placed the new Print.ai in that folder. Quit and restarted Illustrator. clicked on the Print Tab, and it was still points. I opened the Print.ai file to be sure it wasn't rewriten and it's still Inches, so I don't think that's the right file. I'm not sure this is something we can change.    Anyhow, it's a feature request so that we don't need to do that EVERY time we open a New document for the rest of time. There might be people out there that use Points (im guessing outside of NA) I'd love to see a poll. (is that something we can do here make a Poll?) Anyhow, developers are always looking for ways to minimize unnessary clicks. This seemed like one of those opportunities. A subtle change to give users the choice to save the preset defaults in each tab as "X"   If this is something that can already be done, I might need a little more direction, but if that is the case, perhaps Adobe could do a better job of showing users that it is possible.  thanks. ... The Latest Version of Bridge 2023 (v13) appears to have fixed the Scrolling issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The interface appears to have a slight redsign. Bolder arrows infront of the folders. maybe a new icon for the folders as well.  Scrolling now ticks the hieght of exactly one folder. so every step is now the same. It's not "SMOOTH" like pixel by pixel but its small and consistant and it works! finally!    YAY! thank you to who ever took the iniciative at Adobe to Fix this bug!  THANK YOU! ... View more
