I don't currently have a specific case study to share with you. I was just looking for general info from people who have used upscaling software who could share their thoughts on when it was useful to use, as in at what point do you make the decision to upscale an image, what the pros and cons were and whether it was a worthwhile investment.   A typical use case may be a customer wanting an A5 poster blown up to A0, however, the A5 poster only being supplied as a 150dpi jpg containing colour photos...i know in this instance using our printers we could probably get away with this artwork as far up as A2 but beyond that what software or methods would be used to get the best possible output   ... Thank you Chad for a pretty much perfect response, i'm most impressed.....I very nearly never posted this question thinking it might just be a little too niche, but sure glad i did now. This certainly will help me to achieve what i was looking for, all i needed was a little outside of the box thinking (excuse the pun). For a bit of perspective this is for a Golf Scorecard I am creating and I wanted to be able to keep the edits inside the table so that if any other collaborators here work on the file and moved anything about (which often happens), the edits would remain in place. Something doesnt quite seem right here, i've literally just exported a 36pp brochure that has over 100 high res medium/large size images in it using smallest file size and that PDF was 3.6MB....on PDFx/1 full high res the pdf size was 25MB ! if you're able to send me a packaged copy via WeTransfer i would happily take a look for you! ... In the ideal world your colour setup instructions would come direct from the printer, if that is not possible your colour consistency is nothing more than pot luck, however sticking to recognised standards such as FOGRA39 (coated), FOGRA29 (uncoated) etc would be your best bet if you have nothing else to work with. But lets not forget with all the good preparation and setup the colour of the end printed product is in the hands of the Pressman running the actual job and how good he/she is achieving the intended targets (and how good their foreman is at checking its to standard). Items created purely in InDesign should print the same when applied with the same colour swatch. If the text or the object has been created outside of InDesign then you may find that individual colour profiles will affect output. Screenshots would be very useful in this instance. ... View more

Ive just tried this and everything appears to be in order for me. 1.) I created an Ai file with a spot colour red (named: spot red) 2.) Placed Ai into inDesign. 'spot red' appeared correctly in swatch name and appearance 3.) I changed the spot red colour to a yellow retaining the same name and saved the Ai file. 4.) Updated links in InDesign and the linked Ai file updated its colour (to yellow) and kept the same name (spot red). am i missing something here...? JacobHutson​ ... View more

Cant stress enough the importance of being allowed to ask for what purpose the information is required. Without proper understanding of what is required how do you expect get the best help? Simply asking how to achieve something in the only you see it, is often not the best or most efficient way. In this instance, trying to convert InDesign jobs to Photoshop for the use in 'web', is unlikely to end in the best results. By limiting your spectrum of answers you have now put off people from perhaps showing how to to do it in a better way. I use InDesign, Photoshop and Dreamweaver as part of a workflow for web projects. InDesign's only real use is for designing the initial concepts, until it can export to Adobe XD, i can't see what other purpose it might serve. Bob & Dov certainly are the experts here and their advice is invaluable and should be trusted, but in my situation i still have to use clipping paths for a fair proportion of the work i create. In an ideal world where everyone uses the latest technology and the latest kit with the latest methods applied then yes transparency issues are a thing of the past. In my situation i produce work for my own in-house Litho/Digital printing equipment and for external printers too. Naturally any work produced for our own in house printing does not suffer from said issues. My issues generally appear when applying the more modern methods for use with short run printers or digital printers that don't use or have up to date RIP technology. I do a lot of work for sign writers and for short run digital companies using machines like OKI's, Epson's Xerox printers etc and this is generally the most problematic areas i find. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that i think about it I started in print around 15 years ago, and my RIP workflow is 10 years old so it would stand to reason my methods are out of date! .......geeez how time flies i now feel like a print dinosaur! ... A decent free alternative to photoshop can be found here...it is called GIMP! https://www.gimp.org/ it is also open source, well documented and widely used. But obviously always go with photoshop if you can...its worth every penny! ... View more
