MAC / ICLOUD USERS WITH TENACIOUS MISSING LINKS on INDESIGN:     If there is anyone like me out there searching through these threads, having the same problem with needing to reclick on dozens of red question marks EACH AND EVERY SINGLE TIME you reopen a saved InDesign document, even though you can see all your links RIGHT THERE WHERE YOU LEFT THEM, perfectly named with no strange characters, no servers, etc and other issues suggested by other posters here, I can contribute one tiny little thing I finally confirmed. (Sorry if this was "common sense" to those of you who are techier than I!)   I always get, even after double clicking to relink all these "missing" (in plain view) links "not accessible" or "in use by another application." I *think* I know why now:   My new MacBookPro is backing up EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING, the entire desktop even, to icloud. All these links, too.  So it looks like they are no longer JUST "local" to InDesign ALONE for some reason. (I don't really understand why not, since the InDesign doc was also saved the same way, in the same folder, both locally and, therefore, automatically in icloud.) Long story short: what I must do now when I need to work on a large ID doc with lots of links is to first go to its LINKS folder--and whether it was packaged or not seems to make no difference-- open up all the files with litle clouds under them. My screen is then flooded with all my artworks for the book, so I just minimize them. And I have to keep them on, that is available locally, on the desktop, the entire time I'm working in that particular ID doc.   Next, I can open the ID doc and relink just one artwork,  the rest follow if I have the "find all missing links in the folder" box checked. Mindee you have EXACTLY DESCRIBED THE PROBLEMS I've been having for 2 years with cc. Now I have a CRISIS situation. An entire file--entire children's picture book worth of illustrations is missing. It is part of a series. Working on a sequel. Can see the file on the laptop in the cloud but that is not helpful. I need the Fresco layers open on my iPad to continue making the characters to same colors, style, etc. in the sequential stories about them.  Has anyone found a solution?? They are juST GONE. ...  I don't know if this is helpful, but to address both MrZZY and Willi A., I still have problems, even with the latest ID, of master/pareent page spreads affecting the other pages, so this is what I have to do sometimes: make the parent spread the way I want it (in my screenshot it's the C-Parent), but don't use that one for any pages. Make 2 copies of that parent spread (E-Parent and F-Parent) and then delete half the spread in each (the recto in one and the verso in the other). Use accordingly. Of course, can't use if your pages would need to shuffle 😞   I wish this weren't a problem. I've even tried locking different elements to a page: doesn't work. ... View more

Has this question been re-answered correctly anywhere since you posted this clarification, Sandy? We are having the same problem on our team. Again, as you said, no two people are in the same DOC at the same time, but we do need to be in the same book. I can't find a clear answer: is it better, at the end of the day, to save the doc and THEN save the book? Or does ONLY saving the book AUTOMATICALLY save all changes to its docs? And if so, which docs? The ones I have open or all of them in the book? And how does that affect anyone else's work on book docs? We use Dropbox BTW. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks. ... View more

As I have stated in reply to others' comments in this thread, the printing is not an issue at this point. Artist 1 has already submitted dummy books to the client who has in turn had them printed. Both client and publisher are pleased with the work that has been submitted thus far. there remains a large amiunt of work still to be done, and do I was brought in to help. Rob, there is some very helpful information in your reply, and I thank you for this. I would love to be able to define aoplication wide swatches so that I can use them for all future documents I will be working on throug this project. But that's the problem: and that is the question I have: how can I get those exact same swatches from Artist 1? She has sent me an email with a list of names and told me to look in the Pantone Coated menu. I have looked and they are just not there. She even took a screen shot from her computer to prove she was looking right at "hexacheome green" (e.g.) and so I sent her my own screen shot right back, proving that on MY computer ( latest Id version) hexachrome green is NOT there. She is also puzzled, and so we assume the difference must be that she has an older version of Id. So, are you in fact saying there is a way I can instruct Artist 1 on how to share her swatches to my computer WITHOUT her having to send me a large amount of old files that I would have to download and open copy one by one each of her colors? And how would I do this in such a way to make said swatches  available application wide since I would have to have her files open? Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Artist 1 has already submitted her work to the client who has in turn  had dummy books printed, and both client and publisher are happy with the colors. Therefore, my job here is just to continue on with the project using the same color swatches Artist 1 used. So, without Artist 1 sending me a very large number of large files and my spending lots of time downloading and  opening them and copying various  swatches here and there, am I to take it as the final answer to my question is simply that the colors are just no longer available? Or are they just called something else now? E.g. When I'm supposed to make something "hexachrome green" but my version of Id does not have that in any menus I've searched (and I was told it was in the "Pantone Coated" menu, and Artist 1 even sent a screen shot to prove to me she wasn't imagining it there) -- I'm just out of luck?? Can't match? Yes, I even sent her a screen shot back of MY screen to prove I don't have it   . It would be very cumbersome for the other person involved to send me all the files: no single one of them contains all the swatches I'd need. But perhaps there is no other way? So, is the final answer exaxtly what I was afraid of? That there is nonway for me to create a new document to match the old ones unless I actually have downloaded into my laptop the files made by the other illustrator who used an older version? ... I have seen, after perusing some much older forums, this same question regarding colors changing names over the years and how people updating their Id versions have trouble continuing on an old project that was saved in an older version because of these color name changes. Ok. Let me try this again. Like I said, the other artist used an older version of Id to make some of the booklets for a client. This is a HUGE project: 42 color-coded booklets!  So I was brought in to help because of a time /due date issue with the publisher.  I was given this list of color names that Artist 1 has been using, and I was told to continue to use these same colors to keep the look of the series consistent as I put together some of the booklets. But in the current version of Id (which I am using) most of these names cannot be found under ANY of the "add swatches" lists of colors to choose from.  So what I am asking is, how am I to make sure I'm using the same colors she used? And THIS IS NOT A PRINTING ISSUE AT THIS POINT:  the dummy books she's already done have printed just fine: the client and the publisher are both perfectly happy with how the dummy books came out at first printing.
