I attempted to attach 2 files to my last post, but I don't see them. Previously, I got an error message when I attempted to attach a ZIP or an NEF. If you will give me an email addy, I can upload files to Nikon Image Space. From there I can send you a link to them.

@Sameer KApparently, you did not receive my reply to your questions. I am having trouble dealing with the requirements of this site. This will be my third attempt. I shot 8 pics within 5 minutes of each other in .nef format. All 8 look fine in-camera. I downloaded them to an external SSD as usual, and then imported them into the PSE Organizer. The Organizer (and the Editor) show the first 2 shots with magenta stripes, as in my first post. These stripes also appear when the files are viewed with the WIndows Photo app, but are fine in the Fast Stone viewer.

Anyone seen this before? Two of eight .nef shots taken within minutes of each other look like the .jpg below when I import them into PSE 2023 or open them in the Windows Photo App. They look fine in-camera (Nikon D7200), in Fast Stone image viewer, and as thembnails in WIndows File Explorer. This may be a clue - I tried to attach the .nef original in this post, but got this cryptic error message: "The attachment's dsc_1250.nef content type (image/nef) does not match its file extension and has been removed."

I recently took several shots within a few minutes of each other. Two of them appear damaged when viewed in the PSE Organizer and Editor, but look fine in Windows File Explorer and the Fast Stone viewer. Does anyone know what's going on? The second shot is totally covered in vertical magenta lines. .

Thanks Greg. Your explanation of the Catalog helps. I think I accomplished what I wanted, but did it the hard way. The Users\William\Pictures folder that was under the PSE X CATALOG folder was an incomplete duplicate of my collection. When I moved it to another drive, the Organizer could no longer find those files, so I manually connected them to the files in the other Users folder, which is complete. The Organizer now points to all of my pictures in X:\Users\William\Pictures, and the My Catalog 2023 folder is by itself under X:\PSE X CATALOG. I plan to delete the Users folder that I moved.

Thank you for your help. I removed the Users folder and sub-folders from X:PSE X CATALOG and put them on another drive, but I was not confident enough to delete missing files in the Organizer. I spent the day re-connecting missing files, and everything seems normal now. My only concern at this point is, how did this happen? I'm not confident that I understand the relationship between media files and the Organizer.

I’m running Elements 21 on Windows 11, and I just noticed that I have 2 sets of most of my pictures. A complete set is located at X:\Users\William\Pictures, and most of these pics are also located at X:\PSE X CATALOG\Users\ William\Pictures. When I use Tags to search for pics in the Organizer, it gets them from X:\PSE X CATALOG\Users\ William\Pictures - if they are there. If not, it gets them from X:\Users\William\Pictures. Here are relevant portions of my file tree, with creation dates: X:\ PSE X CATALOG folder (12/15/23) MY CATALOG 2023 folder (12/15/23) CAXMPFiles folder FaceAnalysis folder WaldoData folder Watch Folder folder (Also miscellaneous cache, dat and db files) Users folder (12/15/23) William folder (12/15/23) Pictures folder (12/15/23) (Two sub-folders created this year and many individual pics are missing) Users folder (12/2/22) William folder (12/2/22) Pictures folder (12/2/22) (Contains all my pics, including the 2 sub-folders added after 12/15/23) Catalog Manager is currently set to Custom Location X:\PSE X CATALOG. Apparently, something changed on 12/15/23. I'm an old guy, and don't remember! I want a single location for my pictures, preferably X:\Users\William\Pictures, and to delete those in X:\PSE X CATALOG\Users\William\Pictures. Can someone help me clean this up? Thanks very much.

I am using PSE 2023 on Windows 11. I recently took some shots with my Nikon D7200 camera and AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm, 1:4.5-5.6 lens in manual exposure mode: ISO 200, shutter 1/1000, aperture f/8.0, focal length 300mm. The Organizer Information reports the correct ISO and shutter speed, but an F-stop of f/4.50, Aperture Value f/4.50, Max. Aperture Value f/1.00, and a Focal Length of 70.00 mm. Any thoughts?

Thank you. I have only been thinking about file size. My file is 17.9 Megabytes, but the image is almost 110 Megapixels (17,745 x 6,153) - way above the Organizer's native limit. I have 32 Gb of installed RAM. Other than a possible slowdown of the Organizer, is there any reason not to override its limit to match the Editor's limit of 900Mb (30,000 x 30,000)?

I am running PSE 2023 on a Windows 11 desktop. I have created a 1+ Gb .psd pano and saved it as a 17.9 Mb .jpg. I know the Organizer can't create a thumbnail for the huge .psd, but it doesn't for the .jpg either. It displays the "broken file" icon for both files: Thumbs of other, much larger, .jpgs display fine. I have tried Shift+Ctrl+U, to no effect. Elements reports 14.8 Gb free memory. Any thoughts?

Adobe provides for a backup of just the Catalog Structure, but I don't see an option to Restore it. What is the purpose of this backup? When would a User want to have one?

I am currently running PSE 13 on Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit. The web page https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/maximum-image-size-limits-photoshop.html describes a registry hack to get around image size limits in the Organizer. For a 64-bit Windows OS, it says to add a new dword to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\elements organizer\X.0\Organizer When I navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe," I do not see "elements organizer." My only choices are Acrobat Reader, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe ARM, and Setup. Any thoughts will be appreciated. This may be related: A few months ago, I migrated from a Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit computer to the new one I am using now. I did not follow the correct steps to un-install and re-install PSE 13, and had to get help from Adobe Support. It was a very lengthy, difficult process for him to get me running again.

Thanks. I had seen the Adobe article. It describes the “Backup/Restore” method. The other link you sent refers to Lightroom. Neither addresses the “Copy/Move to Removable Drive” feature in PSE 13.

Elements 13 has a "Copy/Move to Removable Drive" feature. This sounds like what I want to do, but all the information I can find on this subject recommends the Backup/Restore technique. I can find no documentation for "Copy/Move." I want to put my Library and Catalog on an external drive, so they can be accessed by either of two computers running PSE 13 by just plugging in the drive. It is important to maintain my present folder structure on the external drive. I am running Windows 10, and I have about 16,000 photos in a few dozen folders. Can someone please discuss the "Copy/Move" function? Does it accomplish my goal? What are the pros and cons versus "Backup/Restore?" Thanks.

I have purchased LR6, with the intent of trying it. All my work to date (16k photos) is tagged, keyworded and captioned with the PSE 13 Organizer. After installing LR and opening it, it asks if I want to upgrade my existing PSE catalog, or create a new LR catalog? My question is: If I select "Upgrade" will that trash my PSE work? I want to keep the option of staying with the PSE Organizer. If I create a new LR catalog, I assume I can import my photos into it and then have TWO catalogs, one PSE and one LR, and switch between the two programs. Is that correct? Thanks

Problem 1: I have all my photos tagged and many captioned. All are stored on the D: drive of my desktop computer, running Windows 10. I have applied "Save Metadata to Files," and the tags and captions are shown in the Information/IPTC tab. The D: drive is shared with my laptop computer, running Win 7. Both machines have PSE 13 installed. When I access the photos from the laptop, almost all are missing their tags. All of the photos in a Local Album have tags, but only a very few others. Why aren't ALL the tags showing on the laptop? Most of the captions seem to be there, but some of those are missing also. Problem 2: The Local Album photos are shown right next to their "originals," looking like duplicates. Clicking on the album brings up just the album photos. Can I "Delete from Catalog" on the laptop, without also losing the photos from the Album? Problem 3: I ran "Save Keyword Tags to File" from the desktop to the D: drive, then used "Import Keyword Tags from File" on the laptop. The import produced a lot, but not all, of my keywords, along with many but not all "People," "Places," and "Events" tags - all lumped together under "Imported Keyword Tags." How can I get ALL the Keywords, Tags and subcategories from the desktop to the laptop; preferably in the right places? Also, the Star Ratings do not show on the laptop.
