Fine but the support page is still spinning an hour and a half later. I rarely need any help so I'm not all that familiar with the support options. It just seems odd that the page just hangs apparently forever.

Thanks, It works sometimes, but even if what you say is the default behavior, it is the wrong behavior in my opinion because if it is sampling the background color of the original text box it should apply the same background color to the new block but it doesn't. Original text background = none then the new background should = none when applied. Anyway I have discovered other anomalies where tool behavior gets broken somehow. For example, often the shift to constrain or shift/option to scale or shift to rotate tool breaks and the only way to fix it is to restart the computer.

Sorry you are wrong. It flat out doesn't work. All settings are correct. Paragraph styles are fine if it was defined, but in my case the original paragraph style was altered slightly manually, for example made a little smaller. I just want to sample an existing text style and apply it. DOES NOT WORK.

Why can't they fix the inDesign eyedropper? Been broken for a couple years now. iMac 5k, High Sierra, inDesign 13.1 I want to be able to paste some text from an email into my inDesign document and then use the eyedropper to apply a style from another text block on the page. All it does is make the background of the new text block the color of the text but does not change the actual text style. This bug has been there forever, please fix. And the Adobe support page???? WTF "One moment while we gather your account information" ... 20 minutes later still spinning... ridiculous!

Another method is to type your cap, (then create outlines) This is important so that you can eliminate any leading. Next draw a transparent box around the letter to assign the amount of wrap. Group the box and the cap and bring the object on top of your body text. Then select Object > Text Wrap > Make. I have found this to be a fast way to make drop caps and it allows for very precise control. One side effect is that it does not spell check.

>Adam is 100% correct. DON'T do anything now if you have
mission critical days coming up in just one month.
>Do you have a good dev environment where you can test all
your apps against CF8?
Yes I will be building two brand new servers. Actually the
mission critical days are slightly more than a month away so I
think I will be able to complete the upgrade/testing in time. If
not I will leave the old ones running.
Thanks all for the advice. It is good to have a second
opinion.

Decision time. We have an application that has been running
since 2001 with no changes. We have two 1U rack servers both
running Win 2000. One is exclusively for the database, MSSQL 2000,
and the other is running Coldfusion 5 on IS6. Both boxes are 2 gig
ram with P4 at 2.66. We tried to upgrade to CF 6 a while back when
it first came out but we had lots of problems with 100% CPU then
crash so we went back to CF 5. This particular application receives
heavy usage with over 200 simultaneous users and heavy database
access. Also, it is mission critical on certain days, (long
story...)
I am very concerned about the age of the hardware. We have
several of those mission critical days next month and I need to
decide what to do. I'm considering upgrading to CF 8 and switching
to Linux/Mysql but that is a lot of work to convert and test
everything, or maybe I should just upgrade to 2 new Windows boxes
and upgrade to Win 2003 and MSSQL 2003 and CF 8. Cost is really not
as much of a concern as the risk of breaking something during
reconfiguring, testing and hardening the application.
What to do? What would you do?

One thing that I have discovered is that the scrollpane
apparently does not resize when new content is loaded into it. It
scales to accept the first data that is loaded into it and then
doesn't check again. Since you need to load the content before you
scale it, this presents a problem because the scroll bars will
scale to the original content size and not the altered size.
So you should use a holder mc as your default content ,sized
to fit the desired scrollpane, then load your final image into that
holder and finally scale your image.
Hope that helps.

oops! Back to the drawing board...
I have a quick question. I have a Flash application that
calls xml files from the server. I have heard that there are ways
of reading the requests that Flash Player is making over the
network therefore exposing my path to the php generated xml files.
In this thread it was mentioned that there is a way that I
can make sure it is my Flash app that is making the call. I'm
worried about someone else with a server mining my data. What
methods are best for checking if it is my app making the request?
There are a few competitors that would like access to my data feed
which I would prefer to keep private to my own application even
though it is public.
