I was running into the same thing on my multi-display setup.  My keyboard shortcuts didn't work.  I couldn't move clips around.  Couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on.  Warm-booted, cold-booted, everything I could think of.  I reset PPro's preferences, and still had the problem.     I just came across this thread, and sure enough, when I changed the workspace to fit on my main monitor, everything worked.  When I changed the workspace back to a multi-monitor setup, the bug was gone.  I could do everything I needed to do with the sequence timeline on the second monitor.  Go figure.  This is definitely a bug.  When I close down a project, though, and open another I have to go through the same steps.   Super frustrating.  PLEASE fix, Adobe!   Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 16gb memory Radeon Pro 460, 4 gb ... OK.  Just ran into this issue.  Haven't run into any other 17.0.1 issues before, but the first time I opened up an AE 2019 project with rotobrushing data in there, I got the error.  I Googled the error and it gave me a link to this thread on the forums.  Thank heavens.  Re-downloaded AE 2019, installed, imported (not direct load) the corrupted file, and it imported fine.  Re-saved as a new name.  Then opened up AE 2020 and it opened just fine.  Other than the small heart attacks that this caused, all is well.  🙂  Thanks to you all for the digital CPR. ... Tim--that did it.  Yes, I had a BlackMagic UltraStudio Express.  I updated the new drivers, and all is well.  Thanks for your help with this! Couple of side notes for people going through the same thing: 1.  The new BlackMagic Desktop Video drivers do not play well with AE 16.0.1.  I wouldn't update the drivers if you are going to stay on previous versions of AE and Premiere.  I got memory errors with new drivers and old AE.  Be careful. 2.  If you are going to copy/paste between Premiere and AE, don't get the new version of Premiere and the older version of AE.  They won't copy/paste between them. 3.  You CAN import a 16.1 AE project into 16.01, but you CANNOT import a new Premiere (13.1?) project in older Premiere (13.0.4?).  Strange, but true. Same error here with far less RAM than you.  My system works fine, though, under 16.0.1.  Strange stuff.  I, too, can't seem to lay off the "upgrade available" button on a new release.  I should be waiting.  Ugh.  It's wild that these memory errors didn't show up in beta.  Either the beta group was pretty small, or something changed in the gold master.  Adobe's beta groups are usually big enough to incorporate artists with way different machines. Exact same error here on 16.1 on Mac OS.  Tried to troubleshoot similar to above.  Cleared cache.  Cleared memory.  Cleared prefs.  Warm boot.  Cold boot.  Dropped existing comp inside of new comp.  Nada.  Memory errors galore. Called Adobe Support, and we tried to troubleshoot for 10 minutes.  They finally told me to roll back and try to update graphics card drivers.  (On a Mac, the Radeon drivers are updated when the OS updates, not on their own.). Basically, I'm hosed until a 16.1.1 comes out or something. No worries, though.  16.0.1 is bulletproof as-is.  Have to wait for the new toys until later.  Puzzling that 16.0.1 worked so well, and 16.1 would give me memory errors right out of the gate and right after a re-boot. Unfortunately, I've had issues with v. 15 since the beginning.  I upgraded my MBPro to High Sierra and installed 15, and the bugs have been fast and furious ever since.  The load and save times for projects has skyrocketed.  It's crashed probably 50x.  I rolled back to 14.x, and the same issues have been happening.  Makes me think that High Sierra is involved here. I've filed probably ten bug reports.  Haven't heard anything back from Adobe for a while.  Wish the updates would have addressed these issues, but nothing has cleared it up yet.  I agree with you.  These releases are tough in a production environment.  So frustrating to save a project and have to wait sixty full seconds before you can work again. ... Mac: Library will not let me set permissions for some reason.  There are three names listed there, and the only one with read/write is "system".  It won't let me add permissions, even though I am an admin.  Weird. I was able to add myself to permissions on the Applications/Adobe apps, but that didn't seem to do anything.  Does High Sierra do something weird with permissions?  I've never seen this happen before.  I'm hoping that someone at Adobe can help me through this, as the memory leaks are killing my productivity in AE and Premiere.  Thanks for your time and ideas! ... Kevin--are people reporting install errors on the 15.0.1 update?  I get the same type of error when I try to update any of the apps.  I've submitted bug reports for AE and PPro. It's just really, really disheartening.  I waited a couple months after High Sierra was released before updating to it, solely because I didn't want it to affect my AE stuff.  Wrong, I know.  I've been crippled with the memory stuff (having to constantly clear RAM, the stupid overlay issues of not being able to right-click on my second screen, etc.). I have only myself to blame.  Just wish Adobe could pump out an update here quick.  I like CC 2018, just need it to work properly. UPDATE: I just tried to update to the new 15.0.1, to see if that would clear things up.  The CC installer keeps giving me an error.  I will file bug report.  FRUSTRATING. This is really, really annoying.  It takes forever to find the top screen menu options for some of the right-click stuff.  PLEASE, PLEASE put this at the top of the priority sequence, even if it's just a "service pack" type of fix.  Ugh, this is what I was trying to avoid by waiting for awhile after High Sierra rolled out.  I should have checked a little closer on the bugs. ...
