Okay, that helps me understand the process a little bit more. So, if I want to edit my effects after I add them, I have to work in multi-track because it's non-destructive and thus the effects can be changed. Whereas in Waveform mode, they are applied directly and irreversibly to the track. Is that an accurate description? The reason I was confused is that I watched an online tutorial in which a woman (at least appeared to) manage her effects in the Rack while in Waveform mode, and I chose to start with Waveform since it seemed the most beginner-friendly. Update: even when I select the mode and import an audio file, which I thought was the issue, no effects will remain in the Effects Rack. I can apply them, but they will not remain in a place where I can see/edit them once I apply them for the first time. For example, if I wanted to change the pitch, I could do so by using the Pitch Shifter. What you have to do is totally undock the audio meter panel (right click on the panel and select Undock Panel). Once it's separated from the interface, you can click and drag it. Drag it to the bottom of the screen, where a green line will appear along the bottom edge of the interface. Once you release it, your meter should know which border it's on and adjust to the horizontal layout. Hope this helps! ... View more

You have three options: 1. You can make a sequence with no black bars, at the cost of cutting off some of the ultra-wide footage. For the best viewing, I would suggest setting your sequence to 1920x1080 and shrinking your ultra-wide footage to fit that aspect ratio. That way, you aren't trying to expand 1080 resolution to a much larger sequence. 2. You can tolerate black bars and keep the full frame of each clip. I'd still stick with 1080p for this. 3. You could change the aspect ratio of your ultra-wide sequence to fit a standard 16:9 aspect ratio (which is what 1920x1080p is). This will result in your wide footage being squished vertically, but it is the only way to make a sequence in which there are no black bars and you can see all of each clip. To do this, select Effect Controls for your ultra-wide clip and deselect the Uniform Scale checkmark (under Motion). This will allow you to adjust the width independently of the height.
