Adobe express is open, but it is not opening my files

Why is adobe express not opening the adobe express files i have in my project folder?

The files open instantly on my desktop when I select "open files when prior editor".  The new editor will not open anything.  and the format that the new editor uses to save files eliminates the separate font edit layer so the whole image becomes one flat image.  worthless.  what am i missing in the new editor?
