Adobe Express working page/art board keeps moving when making Edits

I'm not sure if this is a bug but it's annoying to me. The board keeps moving to the right whenever I click on any element on board, then move to the left when I click the space outside of the board. No matter I zoomed in or out, or manually moved the board to the right so I can see what I need to work on, it will always move back to the center I think. I kind understand why it needs keep moving so the board can stay in the center but it is also very disturbing to try to "catch" the elements I'm working on everytime I click on it and release it. The board movement is just a little too much for this crowd web space. Please review and improve it. Thank you.

Hi! So I was having the same problem and I found a way on another page that had the answer! So I thought (for me) since this was the first suggested page on google, I would tell you the answer here.

SO...What you've got to do first is make sure you have NOTHING selected (for e.g dont press on any element), Next press on one of the tabs in the sidebar (for e.g "Media") and now when you press an element or photo, it wont move your page to the left when editing UNTIL you either reload or press the "X" symbol at the top corner of the tab page.

I thought it was due to the "Zoom" feature on chrome like screen size but its just how Adobe Express is. I hope this helps alot of you out there! 🙂

Hey @janthapak98, Welcome to our Adobe Express community! Thanks for posting the workaround and contributing to the community—it definitely helps our members.

Linking here the related community thread that might also help: how do you lock the toolbar on the left hand side on the Adobe Express web version?

Best!

Hi Dave,

Just want to add something here. I just used Express today and realized the problem of the shift were mainly about selecting elements. Since I like to zoom in and out, when I zoom out with a smaller view of the artboard, the shift would cause more issue. The shift makes the selection harder, which means it's easily to misselect elements on the board and causes additional shifts during this process. It may affect the efficiency to use Express.

Hi Dave,

No problem. Beside Express, I usully work more on Adobe Illustrator where I have more freedom to edit and make changes, so when I use Express, I still keep those habits from when I use Illustrator. In my work flow, I like to see the overall artboard which means I might zoom in/out and click/move elements a lot just to see and make sure if everything works fine together. That habit with the shift of artboard just makes a lot more frustration. The shift keeps distracting my attention when I try to click on the same thing at the same place but it just keeps moving. I might expect it to work as Illustrator where artboard would stick to the same place while you can still move it if you want but I understand Express dosen't like Illustrator where all the tool panels can be expanded all the time. I hope that makes sense to you.

Hi @jiaxinl31137442

Thank you for the additional details and screenshots. I was mistaken, I do see the same behavior as you. It seemed to me that it was doing this to make room for the panel for whatever element you were selecting while maintaining the prior appearance and visibility of the element on the artboard. So if you were zoomed in on a text box and clicked it; it would expand the text panel and shift everything to the right but preserve the appearance of the text box prior to it being selected. This is just my interpretation of what is happening, though. Can you explain more about how the shift makes it hard for you to work or causes difficulties in your workflow?

Thanks again for all the details and examples

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply. Here are the answers for your question:
- I was using Adobe Express on Google chrome browser;

- I was working on Macbook Pro with macOS Sonoma;

- The monitor I'm using right now is 2560 x 1440 while the one I was using the other day has a little lower resolution but I encounter the same issue on both of them.

The following examples are some screenshots for reference.

I'm mainly using Adobe Express for making social graphics so the artboard examples here are either Facebook or Twitter (X) post size (1200*628 or 1200*670)

Below are for two examples when side tool bar was collapsed (where the artboard is in the center) and when side bar was opened. You can notice the artboard was moved to the right when I clicked on the text box and side bar would open. When I clicked on anywhere ouside of artboard, the sidebar would close and artboard would move back to the original location.

Below are another two examples when I zoomed in to make the artboard larger. The same thing happened when I clicked on text box or other elements. The board would moved to the right. When I clicked outside of the board, the board would move back to the original location.

Another two examples when I zoomed out to make the artboard look small. Same thing happened that the board moved.

I hope those exmaples are making more sense to you!

Hi @jiaxinl31137442

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I don't see the same behavior myself so was wondering if you might provide some more details to help me better understand.

- Are you using Adobe Express on a computer or mobile device?
- Which device and OS version?
- If you're using a computer do you know the screen resolution?

Would it be possible to share some screenshots of the issue? What you described about centering made sense to me but I want to get more info.

Thanks,
Dave
