After the most recent update, almost every time I click on Remove Background I see, "Sorry, we were unable to remove background from this image. Please try re- uploading your asset".

After the most recent update on the Android app, almost every time I click on Remove Background I see, "Sorry, we were unable to remove background from this image. Please try re- uploading your asset". This rarely happened before, but now it's the only response I get to any image.

    I am getting this issue too… I use the remove background feature on a daily basis, and have tried images from which backgrounds have been removed successfully in the past as well as the one I want to do, random images from my files… GRRR. 

    As I use the web version I don’t have an app cache to clear… Off to reboot everything, if that doesn’t work I’m not sure what to do next!

    I am experiencing this issue now as well.  Have cleared cache, rebooted, reinstalled, uninstalled, rebooted, uninstalled again, full shutdown, reinstalled.

     

    Still receiving this error with any images attempted

    Thank you both for flagging this - and ​@lynnjerry , I completely understand the frustration, especially when background removal is central to your workflow.

     

    This is a known issue our engineering team is actively investigating and working on a fix for. It's not something on your end, so unfortunately the standard troubleshooting steps won't resolve it while the fix is in progress.

     

    We'll update this thread as soon as there's a resolution. We really appreciate your patience in the meantime. ​@Nich2349118663xv do you mind sharing your exact type of device and which app version you’re on?

    Good news - our engineering team deployed a fix for a known Remove Background issue last Thursday. Could you both give it another try and let us know if it's working for you now?

    Yeah, I started getting this same output as well this evening using AE/bg remover tool. 3/16/26.

    Hi ​@doug5150, Welcome to our Adobe Express community, and thanks for reporting this.

    Since this started happening after the latest app update, here are a few things you can try:

    Force close and clear cache. 
    Go to Settings > Apps > Adobe Express > Storage, then:

    • Tap Clear Cache (avoid Clear Data for now)

    • Force stop the app

    • Reopen and try again.

    Reinstall the app
    If clearing the cache doesn’t help, uninstall and reinstall Adobe Express. This refreshes background services that power features like Remove Background.

     

    If the issue continues after reinstalling, could you please share:

    • Your Android device's make and model details with the OS version

    • Adobe Express App version number

    • Whether this happens with all images (including very simple ones)

    This will help us narrow down whether it’s device-specific or related to the recent release.

    However, I tried using the remove background feature on an Android device with the latest version of Adobe Express installed, and it seems to work fine for both camera-captured images and downloaded graphics. 

    We can also test with the image that fails for you if you're able to share it for testing. 

     

    Appreciate you flagging this, we’ll help get it sorted.

    I am unable to remove backgrounds from any picture I try. I have tried all your above fixes but still not working. I have premium subscription and at this point am likely to cancel since the background removal is the main reason for my subscription. I am at wits end
