Captions not working on video templates

I can't get captions to work on templates. I create a template with a video with captions and save it. Then I make a new project from the template and replace the main video. When I click "generate captions" from the new video the captions get stuck generating and never produce any captions.

Thanks to the quick reply. Here are a few answers to your questions.

Caption generation does work on video if I start a fresh project.
On the stuck project, the caption generation does hang forever. It never times out or generates anything.
The video in the template is about forty seconds and the test video I am replacing with is thirty seconds long.
This is happening every time I run through these steps.

This is really helpful, thank you, @adventurous_life2d46. You've isolated it well: captions work from a fresh project but hang every time in the template-then-replace flow, with normal-length videos. I'm bringing it to the team now with your steps and recording.

In the meantime, since captions generate fine when you start from a fresh project, you can build the reel from scratch rather than from the template, add your video, and generate captions there. I know that loses the convenience of the template, which is the actual thing we need to fix, but it should at least get captions working on the videos you need out the door now.

I'll update this thread as I hear back.

A few things that will help pin it down:

Does caption generation work if you start a fresh project (not from a template) and generate captions on a video there? That tells us whether it's tied to the template-then-replace path specifically or captions generally.
On the stuck project, does it hang forever, or eventually error out or time out after a while?
Roughly how long is the replaced video, and what format is it (for example an MP4 from your phone)?
Does it happen every time you run through those steps, or only sometimes?

If a fresh-project video captions fine but the template-replace flow reliably hangs, that points at something specific to that path, and that's good to know for further troubleshooting. A short screen recording of it getting stuck would help too if it's easy to grab.
