Grouped Objects Don't Resize with Preserved Spacing Proportions

I have a grouping of text that I am using to build a logo. I have everything stacked, spaced, and aligned the way I want it for my logo. However, I want the whole design to fill the empty space in the canvas more. So, like I am used to in Canva, I grouped all the text boxes together, and then went to use a corner handle (holding down shift, and then I tried without holding down shift key) to drag and resize so the content fills the canvas more.

Sizing the group smaller seems to keep everything in relative proportion, but trying to make the group larger, the text starts to spread out horizontally.

But the whole thing spreads apart the more I try! text boxes space away from each other instead of the whole thing acting as one object!! So frustrating and makes me miss Canva. I'm using Chrome browser for adobe Express, I've tried fixing the problem with and without hardware acceleration turned on.
