Hindi Font Not Displaying Correctly in PDF Export (Works Fine in JPG/PNG) – Letterhead Issue

Hello Adobe Express Community,

I am facing a technical issue while exporting my letterhead design in Hindi. The content includes:

When I export the design as a PDF file, the Hindi font does not display correctly—the characters appear distorted or replaced. However, when I export the same design as a JPG or PNG file, the Hindi text appears exactly as designed.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create a letterhead in Hindi in Adobe Express.
  2. Export the file as PDF – font issue appears.
  3. Export as JPG/PNG – font displays correctly.

Expected Result:
Hindi text should display correctly in the exported PDF, just as it does in JPG/PNG.

Actual Result:
Hindi font is not rendered properly in PDF export.

(cant attach the screenshots as it is also giving me error (Sorry, unable to complete the action you requested.)

Request:
Please advise on how to resolve this issue or if there is a workaround. Is there a recommended font or export setting for Hindi text in PDF? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

@4dream The reason your JPG and PNG exports look perfect is that those are raster formats; everything gets "flatten" into pixels, so the font doesn't need to be "read" by the Acrobat.

When Adobe Express exports a PDF,  the specific Hindi font you chose isn't either an OpenType compatible or doesn't have a Unicode mapping that the PDF standard recognizes, the viewer (like Acrobat or a browser) will substitute it with a generic font

You know what I would do instead? I would make a duplicate copy of the file:

  • keep one with working fonts (for future edits, if needed); and
  • the second file, convert the fonts to outlines — by converting the text to vectors would elimunate the issue on hand (although, I was trying to do this,  looking to vectorized my text, but, it seems I can't. AI says it can, but, AI isn't as reliable because it doesn't work...either that, I am super tired (it's 3am PST!)

The issue on hand sounds like fonts are NOT being embedded in the PDF, and when you open it, it is being substituted with a general font
