Icon movement and resizing extremely laggy

Hi all - currently running Windows 10 using MS Edge - have not tried Chrome yet but honestly would rather not as I am trying to consolidate platform usage (less context switching).
Are the recent AE updates causing lag for things like doing a simple drag the corner of an icon to make it the same length as the dimensions of the asset/workspace?

I can barely place an icon and make it the pixel length I require it.

Images, Design Assets and photos are all fine, shapes are ok to manipulate but take at least 30 secs before they appear in the workspace following being clicked.
