Issue: PDF Print exports do not recognize bleed correctly

I need to be able to PDF Print with bleeds and crop marks and it's giving me these awful downloads. How do we fix it? Is there anyone from Adobe Express that can help with tech support?

When I uploaded the file to AI it said this:
The problem — Adobe Express set the BleedBox to a massive 29"×32" area (essentially the same as the giant canvas MediaBox), and the CropBox was also the full canvas. So everything — the huge blue surround, the misplaced bleed, the buried crop marks — was all a side effect of Adobe Express exporting the entire design workspace rather than just the artboard.

Hi @Elija D., thanks for sharing the details.

We’ll try to replicate the issue on our end to investigate this, but I’d be helpful if you could provide some additional screenshots or screenrecording of the editor window with a project having bleed & margins and then of the exported PDF.

This will help us see what experience you’re getting with the workflow.

    Best!

Problem: Druck-PDF wird im falschen, immer gleichen Format exportiert (viel größer)
    Product: Adobe Express (Web)
    Platform: Microsoft Edge, Chrome

    Schritte:

    1. Erstellung Datei im A3-Format
    2. Klick auf Herunterladen
    3. Auswahl Druck-PDF mit Farbprofil

I am fighting with the same issue as mentioned at the beginning, I already cleared my cache, tried different browsers and so on. The exported pdf file doesn’t have the same size as in Express.

    Hi @Elija D.,

Thanks for reaching out! We’re sorry to hear about this. Could you please answer some of the questions below to assist you further?

    • Could you share the project URL (Edit link) with me via private message?
    • Does the issue happen with all designs or just this specific file?
    • Are you using any custom fonts, grouped elements, or shapes with borders?
    • Does the border sit at the edge of the canvas (bleed/margin area)?
    • If you duplicate the page and download again as PDF, do you see the same behavior?

    Regards,

    Tarun

I am trying to export a template out of express with crop marks and bleed. I have had no problems until recently, where the file is now exporting instead of 4x6 at 24x22. Attaching images to show canvas size and what size it is opening as in acrobat when I download it

    Hi @amelia_2020!

Thank you for the screenshots - that's a really clear illustration of the issue. This is a known bug we're actively working on.

Could you try a workaround that's helped some users in the meantime? Go to Edit Page/File > Resize and switch your canvas units to inches, then re-export as PDF Print with bleed and crop marks enabled.

If that doesn't resolve it, could you also share the project link with edit access via DM (click Share > Who has access > Anyone > Can edit) - please make a duplicate copy of your file for yourself first!

That way we can pass it along to the engineering team directly.

re-uploading your screenshots - they got lost when I moved your thread here!

    @Rose DV Hi
We are encountering the same issues, but unfortunatly changing to inches but it has not the huge bleeds we’re getting on documents. Please can you help, and advise when the bug will be fixed?
    Many thanks

    Penny

    Hi @Penny Kirby!

Thanks for confirming that you attempted the workaround. The product team is aware and they are working on it, though I don’t have a timeline to share. In the meantime, can you share:

    • The document dimensions you're working with
    • A screenshot of your download settings
    • The link to the project with edit access via DM?
      • Open the project in Express
      • Click Share > Who has access > Anyone and set to Can edit
      • Copy the link and send it to me via DM

That way I can let them know more users are experiencing the issue and that the workaround isn’t always effective!

    Hi Rose,

Thanks for responding– Unfortunately this workaround doesn’t work for me either. Going to send you the link to the document for your dev team

So glad that worked @River O.! 🎉 Happy printing!

Just to summarize the workaround for anyone else who finds this thread:

If your exported PDF has excess white space or an oversized bleed area, try going to Edit Page/File > Resize and switching your canvas units to inches before exporting as PDF Print. This appears to resolve the issue while we investigate a proper fix.

my pdf is exporting as 377.6mm x 464.6mm. There seems to be approximately 80mm on unnecessary white space being added.
