Layer windows blank, can't see image of each layer

The images of the layers in the menu that I move around are often blank since the latest update. They layers are in the project I can see them all, but very inconvenient to figure out what layers is what & place them accordingly.
Additionally, I can't lightly select between the layers I now have to hold the layer for it to select, & it often duplicates the window (see attached) of the layers menu but doesn't actually duplicate it in the project. Then it ends up frozen / stuck & I have to exit & renter the app. That only fixes it 25% or less of the time.
