resizing picture to smaller increases its size in Mb

Can someone explain why Adobe Express increases the size of a picture in Mb in the process of making it smaller in px?

For example, a 2500 x 2500 px picture which was 1.13 Mb when resized to 2000 x 2000 px has increased its size to 1.34 Mb?

I've had even more dramatic Mb increases when making the picture smaller in px, from 700 Kb to almost 2 Mb.  When you REDUCE the size you REDUCE the weight. You don't increase it.

This doesn't make any sense!

Is anyone well versed in Adobe Express assisting users on this forum?

No one seem to know or understand why decreasing the image size increases its resolution.  This is insane!  an No - I can't give you the steps as there aren't any - just uploaded the image and changed the size setting - THAT'S IT.

I reduced an image 4744px x 4760px with the weight/size/resolution of 1.35 MB

down to 3000px x 3000px which INCREASED its size/weight/resolution (whatever you call it ) to 2.5 MB.

I can't have the size increased! When I reduce the dimensions I want the size to reduce as well.

The lack of support on this forum and generally for Adobe Express is very disappointing.

Where is Adobe upport?

UPDATE 2

I was too quick to praise that other URL.  I tried to resize another image and again got insufficient compression - larger than the previous one of exactly the same size.

So there is a bug.  How can you explain that exactly the same size image when resized to the same dimensions the first time produced 800 Kb and the second time (second image) it was 1.22 Mb ?  Looks like Adobe Express doesn't handle compression very well

I think I need to change my question:

how can I compress an image in Adobe Express to the size in Mb I need?

For example, when I resized my image to 3000 x 3000 I need it to be less than 1 Mb.

Is there such a feature here?

UPDATE

I have opened

https://new.express.adobe.com/tools/resize-image

directly from the google search browser rather than from within Adobe Express

and followed exactly the same steps with the same image.

THIS TIME - the downloaded image has the correct new dimensions AND the size under 1Mb - which it should.

You have a HUGE bug in Adobe Express when accessed directly. Not sure why.

what's the difference between the two? is "new Adobe express" the correct version I should have?

Please advise.

hi

this is an ongoing and very frustrating bug.

I upload an image for example, 4600 px x 4600 px 1 Mb into Resize Image window.

I select Custom size of 3000 px x 3000 px.

Download the image.

The new image is 3000 x 3000 (SMALLER) but it has 2.3 Mb resolution (LARGER) which I can't have.

Why is this happening and how to prevent the resolution from doubling in size?

this happens every single time with every image of every size - which make Adobe Express unusable for the purpose of resizing images

please advise

thanks

Hey, @Quantum88, thanks for raising this!

Can you please provide the steps used to resize the image? If possible, please share a screen recording of the workflow you followed. We'd need the exact steps to replicate this issue for investigating it.

Best,

Amitej
