Question

Some templates (not all ) in Adobe Express do not allow changes only option in these is to make it your own

I am a premium creative cloud customer when I select SOME templates from the gallery there is no option to adapt and cannot be downloaded or edited the only option is “make it your own” but still will not download or be personally edited in any way. This is a recent issue and worked perfectly well prior to the week

I’ll throw in here. I can’t find hardly any “Customize it” templates when I search for templates. I’m on a PC desktop using Windows 11. Here’s what’s happening. I click on a template, 99% are “Make it your own.”  I don’t want that. I want to be able to do what I’ve been doing with Adobe Express. I want to have templates I can directly edit. Not telling a prompt what to do to the image. Here’s my journey on trying to get an Out of the Office Instagram post template.
    1. I search for: Out of the Office Instagram Template.

    2. I get a zillion “Make it your own” options, but not a single static “Customize it” option.

    3. I tell the AI prompt on https://new.express.adobe.com/design/template/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:2ff9cab5-038f-526b-9126-59f725ba1eae?category=text&entryPoint=template&taskID=instagram-portrait-post to create a layered template. It gives me some options.
    4. I click on an option and it sends me into an AI hellscape where I have to type out what I want instead of directly editing it myself. I want to have a template I can modify like I’ve always had the ability to do.

I have supporting images, but I keep getting a error loading messgae when I try to drop them in the text.

Here’s what I suspect you’re doing. You want us to burn Firefly tokens. If we go over our token limit,  you want us to buy more. I already give you folks $700 a year for the CC package. Now, you’ve made my life more difficult. Just tell me how I can search for “Customize it” templates.

    Hi @briank18628038,

Thank you for the detailed walkthrough of your experience. I understand the frustration -  you want to edit directly, not work through prompts, and that's completely valid feedback.

I’m passing new comments on this thread along to the team internally, and, I'd recommend posting it as a feature request: thttps://adobeexpress.uservoice.com/forums/951181-adobe-express (specifically asking for a way to filter or search for directly-editable templates only). This also lets other users upvote and helps me prove to the product team what people are looking for!

So you don’t deny this change is a money grab by Adobe for using Firefly credits?  My request isn’t a popularity contest. I’m a customer who has feedback that should be taken seriously and sent to the appropriate department. They should reply to me. Afterall, I didn’t pay for the Express we have now. I paid for the Express I had at the beginning of the year. Did everyone at Adobe forget the basic tennants of customer service?

    Hi @Michael_Atkinson4330 & @BlacklineCoffeeDonuts -

    Apologies on the delay!

What you’re seeing is the difference between a template that can be customized using the new Adobe Express AI Assistant (the ones tagged with the “Make it your own” have the sparkle icon next to it indicating the AI Assistant ability) and the templates that are not currently supported (where you see the “Customize it” button instead).

This is as intended, as the AI Assistant is a new feature. As the team works to improve it, you will see it roll out to further types of templates!

Let me know what other questions come up!

This not correct. If you select a template from the general template choices and the one you select happens to have the “Make it Your Own” element it operates as you say. But when you choose the template size of your work say instagram, beforehand and then search for a tempate using the side bar search and choose the same template then you are able to customse in the ususal and I must add more pereferencial way.

Yes! I think we are actually speaking the same language - your screenshots just show the
AI-assistant flow, so I was speaking to that flow and why you might not be seeing the same options!

Appreciate you making sure to clarify!

    Hi @Michael_Atkinson4330,

That doesn't sound like expected behavior! In Adobe Express, selecting "Make it your own" should create an editable copy of the template rather than prevent editing altogether.

To help narrow this down, could you let us know:

    • Are you using Adobe Express on the web, iOS, or Android?

    • Does the issue occur in multiple browsers (if on web)?

    • Are you seeing any error messages when you select Make it your own or try to download the project?

    • Could you share a link or screenshot/screen recording of one of the affected templates?

As a quick test, please try signing out of Adobe Express, signing back in, and opening the template in an alternate browser. Similar template access/remix issues have sometimes been resolved with basic browser troubleshooting.

Once we have the platform details and an example template, we can investigate further.

    Thanks,
    Rose
