Splitting Audio is a NIGHTMARE

Just want to trim my audio down to match the trimmed video. I have audio I recorded separately to the video - both at EACTLY 1:13. Everytime I split the video / audio (lets say to 30s) to get a shorter segment, it just shortens my audio. SORT IT OUT
