Text Object Bounds

Seems to me that overnight, Adobe changed the bounds of a text object - those periwinkle rectangles that appear when we edit text. In the attached screenshot, the text "vs" has its periwinkle bounds showing. They used to hug the text contents much more closely. This is just bizarre and not helpful in any way.

This change makes it more awkward to arrange objects and to move them. Please give us an option to revert back. I am yet again confused by this team's weird UI decisions.

In the meantime, there's still a bug that autoselects another object when you bring something to the canvas. This is something the team has acknowledged months ago. I do not understand why such fundamental bugs are not fixed, yet Adobe changes the UI to make it less intuitive and more awkward.

Hi @roni_7407

I didn't get the time to respond earlier, but I had been wanting to say that I could not replicate that issue at all 🙂

Glad to hear you are not seeing it now either.

On the other two (text object bounds and group behavior), I don't have any happy tidings for you. While you or I may not like these behaviors, I know that these are intentional (and painful) trade-offs the corresponding teams have made to be approachable to a wide spectrum of users, many of whom do not have the same familiarity with design tools.

Hi @Abhi.G @ ADBE! Thank you! The image drag-to-canvas bug is FIXED! That's amazing! Thank you so much, and please pass along my happy gratitude to the team! Thanks again! This is wonderful 🥳

Hi @Abhi.G @ ADBE,

Thank you for your attentive response, and thank you for passing along my feedback to the relevant team. This change makes it much harder to align text boxes with each other and to select objects on the canvas. I'm referring to the experience on a browser on a laptop, perhaps the most precise tool for selecting objects.

Second issue - steps:

1. Nothing is selected on the canvas

2. I drop an image onto the canvas

3. Result: both the image and the next layer are selected. This always happens, no exception. I raised it to another person on your team who acknowledged this behavior and called it a bug. It has not been fixed for months.

Generally, it's also hard to select an object and know that I am about to drag it. The UI behaves randomly. I usually select, deselect, reselect in order to be certain that I am selecting an object and I am moving it, not resizing.

While I'm on the subject, selecting a group is bananas. The expected result from selecting a group: now I can move the entire group. The result in Adobe Express: a single member of the group is selected, and I move the object.

To move a group, I select it from the layers menu on the right, then use the double-arrow drag button to move.

Not only is what I described insane, I can't select two groups to move them.

I have many years of experience with graphic design software, and never have I ever had the experience of a group selection resulting in the selection of a single member of the group. The whole idea of groups is that you get to use the group as a single object, especially in the most basic action: moving it.

I fail to understand why Adobe is so consistently sabotaging this product. It was so good two years ago. You would not get all these complaints if your developers just used universally accepted UI practices for graphic design software.

Thanks again for your attentive, friendly response.

Hi @roni_7407

You are right it you observation that this is a recent change. I do not have the full background on this, so let me pass on your feedback (that I share) to the relevant team.

The second issue: is your concern specific to when an object is already selected and a new object is added, Express selects them both? If so, this is logged in our bug-reporting system. Again, let me ping the team on its status.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks
