The menu moves my document each time it expands and closes

The menu when you select items should be able to be pinned to the screen. Unfortunately, every time an element is selected, the menu expands and shifts my document to the right, causing extreme frustration. And then, when an element is unselected, the menu collapses and shifts my canvas over to the side again. so I am consistently wathching my document shift left and right while currently trying to move around page elements.
