Timeline Auto‑Jumping Between Video Layers When Trimming Clip Duration
Adobe Express – Video Layers / Timeline Editor
When trimming the duration of a clip inside a Video Layer, the timeline auto‑jumps to a different layer as the user approaches the end of the clip. This breaks editing flow and makes precise trimming nearly impossible.
Platforms tested:
- Adobe Express Desktop App
- Microsoft Edge (latest version)
Confirmed across views:
- Single Layer View → Issue occurs
- All Layers Beta View → Issue occurs
Issue persists identically across both.
Expected Result
- The trim handle should remain locked to the current video layer.
- The timeline should not shift focus unless the user manually selects another layer.
- Trimming a clip should allow precise adjustments without losing context or position.
Actual Result
- UI automatically jumps to a different video layer while trimming.
- User must manually scroll or reselect the previous layer to continue editing. This is available following a substantial lag as the new layer loads.
- This behavior interrupts trimming multiple times, making fine timing adjustments very difficult.
Impact
- Disrupts multi‑layer video editing workflows.
- Reduces precision and control when adjusting clip timing.
- Significantly slows down editing during projects with stacked or complex video layers.
Frequency
- Occurs consistently and predictably across multiple projects, multiple layers, and multiple environments.
